2012 NRDP Application
1. Purpose
To identify and develop, to International Standards officials with the potential to be a
Referee at National/International level.
2. Preferred Abilities
-
Have a desire to be a National Level official;
-
Be receptive to coaching at all levels of basketball;
-
Indicate fitness for such a level;
-
Exhibit good communication skills;
-
Be of good character;
-
Have sufficient experience to progress to a minimum of Women’s SBL;
-
Contribute at a local stadium (ie WABL as well as local stadium competition);
-
Willing to contract to perform for a minimum of 3 years in the program.
3. Program Structure
The program will focus on many aspects concerned with basketball officiating. In
particular the following will be some criteria:
Knowledge Transfer – Obtain knowledge from all levels of basketball in Australia
and if necessary ensure it is passed down the line.
Game Knowledge - Ensure knowledge is obtained from Referee Coaches,
meetings, and education opportunities as presented. In particular it will be expected
that whilst in the program you will obtain at least Level 1 Coaching standard.
Mentor - You will be expected to obtain a mentor to assist you during your time in the
program as well as being a mentor for a minimum of one person in the SRDP as well
as a junior official at your local association.
Leadership – During your time in the program you will be expected to be
professional at all times as well as being a role model for younger officials. During the
meeting program you will be expected to organise and control at least one training
meeting during each year.
Professional Standards - A member of the NRDP will be expected to follow a code
of ethics whilst in the program. Such items listed below will be some of the criteria:

attendance at meetings.
Events/Experiences – As a member of the NRDP you will be exposed to coaching
experiences at both WNBL and NBL levels and are expected to attend games where
you are rostered. Additionally you may be chosen to attend the AIS camp held in
Canberra in January, or the Vic Classic held in Melbourne in June each year.
Additionally there may be opportunities to attend other carnivals during each year.
It is mandatory to participate as a referee coach/supervisor at the Annual WA State
Junior Championships held in late November/early December each year.
Physical Requirements - It is mandatory to pass the fitness test conducted at the
commencement of the SBL season each year. Another fitness test must also be
passed, unless a medical certificate is provided, at least once during the year.
4. Selection Process
Applications for inclusion into the National Referees Development Program will be
called for during November each year.
The selection process will include an interview, review of application,
recommendation from SRDP coordinators, performance at SBL, WABL or State
Championships.
5. Mandatory:
1. Minimum accredited Level One referee who is registered with BWA and is
actively pursuing either Level Two or Three status
2. Actively supportive of Basketball WA competitions and policy, including
refereeing in local association, WABL or SBL.
3. A strong desire to improve as a referee
4. Proven ability and willingness to constructively participate in group and
individual learning
5. Commitment to the program for the year and fellow members for 3 years and
attendance to at least 80% of all sessions (depending on personal and work
commitments).

Referees Development Program in Western Australia along with what you
consider are the ideals and aims of the program. Additionally please indicate
what skills will you bring with you to enhance the program.

