Chapter 16: Sisa Sisa prepared dinner for her two boys, Basilio and Crispin. Unfortunately, her husband came home and ate the dinner prepared for her sons. After dinner, her husband asked about the boys that made Sisa happy. She pleaded him to stay and wait for the boys but he did not obliged. He asked her to make sure that she set aside P1 from Basilio’s salary for him. Sisa cried when her husband left but the thought of her sons’ arrival overcame her sadness. She waited, and waited until midnight until she heard Basilio’s desperate voice and knock at the door. Notes: Sisa life is full of tragedy and misery. Sisa’s martyrdom was typical during that time. Although, most Filipino women have changed their views on their roles in the society, there are still Sisa’s in the society from all walks of life.
