Research Interests and Expertise:
Dr. Asemi major research interests involve epidemiology and prevention of the metabolic
syndrome and cardiovascular disease through diet, lifestyle and supplements. He has focused on
diet and lifestyle determinants of the metabolic syndrome, pregnancy especially gestational
diabetes mellitus. Several detailed analyses in this field have been done, including intakes of
whole-grains, dairy, fruits and vegetables and dietary patterns and supplements. His current
research has expanded to investigate the link between diet, particularly dietary patterns, and
biomarkers of systemic inflammation and oxidative stress.
