The doctor of pharmacy curriculum approved in October, 2006 requires students to take 4 credit hours of
electives in the first three years of the program. While we strongly recommend you take electives within
the College of Pharmacy, we would like to offer you some flexibility in the development of your career
goals. The approved non-pharmacy courses that will count toward elective credit are listed on the College
Website. Please see the process below if you want to petition the committee to approve other courses.

Procedure for Approval of Electives
1. Students may petition the Curriculum Committee for approval of electives of their choice. The
student should send an email to the Curriculum committee chair providing the following
information:
a. course prefix and number
b. Personal or career goals met by the course
c. semester the student would like to enroll
2. The Curriculum committee chair will research course description, learning outcomes and
availability to PharmD students
3. The Committee will consider the course using the following criteria
a. Does the course fulfill curricular learning outcomes
b. If the student would like to take the course for personal or career goals, is the course
suitable for professional study
