You will also have another opportunity to have your questions answered by The Elections Group at the Candidate Meeting at 6pm, Tuesday 9h October 2007 (Week 2) in the DTP Suite, Union North. Complete the online nomination form before 12 Noon, Wednesday 10th October 2007 (Week 2). Upload a manifesto onto the Students’ Union website before 12 Noon, Friday 12 October 2007 (Week 2). The Democratic Services Office (DSO), Level 2, Union North can also assist with online nominations. Forms are accessible through the Union website, click on the Voting tab to the left of the homepage http://www.sunion.warwick.ac.uk/portal/voting.. Your on line nominations must be submitted by 12 Noon, Wednesday 10th October 2007 (Week 2). Nominate yourself promptly, as late nominations cannot be accepted whatever the reason. If you have any problems contact the Chair of Elections Group immediately at egchair@sunion.warwick.ac.uk If you change your mind and wish to withdraw your nomination, put this in writing to the Returning Officer of Elections Group, before the close of nominations (12 noon, Wednesday 10th October 2007). When you have submitted your online nomination form please pick up a “What to do… and What Not to Do” guide from the Democratic Services Office or at Involvement Day, this outlines what you need to know about campaigning. Please make sure you fill this in and return them to the DSO. MANIFESTOS General Information There is one manifesto for you to do. This is an online manifesto which any Union website user will be able to view, and importantly, will be available for viewing at the point of voting. On manifestos make sure you include your name!! (… plenty have forgotten in the past…!) If you are standing for more than one post (this is rare), you must submit separate material for each candidacy (although they can be similar if you wish). Make your campaign interesting and eye-catching – try to come up with an attention-grabbing theme. If you get stuck for ideas, visit the DSO and ask to see copies of some previous years’ manifestoes. You can upload your manifesto at the Nominations Administration area at http://www.sunion.warwick.ac.uk/portal/voting. This facility will be available towards the end of Week 1 (week commencing 1st October 2007). Your online manifesto will be built using simple text editor that allows you to upload both text and pictures, please see instruction below. You can amend your online manifesto until 12 Noon, Friday 12th October 2007 (Week 2). Again, make it interesting!!!! DSO = Democratic Services Office, which is found on the second floor of the Union North building. 3 Uploading a Photograph to Your Manifesto Step 1: Click the Upload Photo Button This means logging in to the Union web site: http://www.sunion.warwick.ac.uk, going to the voting system and clicking review nominations, and then selecting the modify manifesto link. Click Here Step 2: Browse for an Image Click the Browse button. Click Here 4 Step 3: Find Your Image File You should look through the documents on your computer and select the appropriate image file and then click the Open button. Click Here Step 4: Upload Your Image to the Website Click the Upload button and then click the OK button. You will have to close this window yourself and return to the Upload Manifesto Window illustrated in step 1. Click Here Then Click Here You will have to close this window yourself. 5 Step 5: Submit Your Manifesto Click Submit Manifesto. Please also view your manifesto to make sure the image has been inserted correctly. Click Here You have now successfully uploaded a photo for your online manifesto. Well Done! You may have some additional questions about being a candidate, so it is essential you attend the candidate meeting if you would like them answered. If at any time, you have any questions about the whole process email elections@sunion.warwick.ac.uk or visit the Democratic Services Office in Union North. 6 TRAINING FOR UNION COUNCILLORS & UNIVERSITY REPRESENTATIVES All successful candidates to Union Councillor and Union Officer posts are required to attend a training session on Saturday 20th October 2007(Week 3). All candidates will receive further information soon. ONE FINAL WORD… Polling takes place online from 9am, Monday 15th October 2007 until 9pm, Wednesday 17th October 2007 (Week 3). Encourage your friends to vote and don’t forget to vote for yourself! There will also be an electronic polling station in the Democracy Hub (Level Two, Union North) The results are only final after the deadline for complaints has passed, notice will be posted to this effect. 7
