Bonnie the Bunny
It’s the day before Easter and all of the bunnies are standing in line to
get a new ribbon. Bonnie is at the end of the line. But Bonnie is an
impatient bunny and every time the person who ties the ribbon takes a
bunny from the front of the line, Bonnie sneaks up in the line.
1. If Bonnie sneaks up 2 places each time the person takes a bunny
to get a ribbon, can you find a pattern that will let you predict
how many bunnies get a ribbon before Bonnie? Investigate with
different numbers of bunnies to find a pattern.
2. Use you method to fill in the chart below:

3. Explain your strategy for determining how many bunnies get their
ribbons before Bonnie.
4. Bonnie gets more and more impatient.
a. Explore how your rule changes if Bonnie sneaks past 3
bunnies at a time.
b. How about 4 bunnies at a time?
c. 10 bunnies at a time?
5. When someone tells you how many bunnies there are in front of
Bonnie and how many bunnies at a time she can sneak past,
describe how you could predict the answer.
