II. Course Description:
The course will concentrate on intermediate instruction in Spanish. There will be training
in speaking, listening, reading, and writing for students who have completed Spanish 200.
III. Course Objectives:
Goals are:



Comprehend and produce intermediate spoken communication in Spanish.
Read, write, and comprehend intermediate level written passages in Spanish.
Acquired an intermediate understanding of Spanish language grammatical
structure.

Additional materials will be provided in Blackboard and class. Instructor will announce
when material to blackboard has been posted.
VI. Assesstments:
There will be three major exams during the regular course of the year, and a final exam.
All exams are indicated in your syllabus. Description of Final Exam will be handed three
weeks prior to the schedule date of exam.
No make-ups, unless YOU (not someone you know) had an emergency. Proof is required.
VII. Class Requirements:

Class Participation is key: Not only are you working on improving your Spanish,
by participating you are making sure you earn the grade.
Homework should be turned in on time, late assignments receive half credit.
VIII. Class etiquette:

Learning a new language is fun, but also intimidating; please refrain from
laughing or making fun of others when they struggle.
Do not come late to class or leave early. It is very disruptive, and shows lack of
dedication and discipline form your part.
Private conversations, especially those not related to the class, are discouraged
and work against your participation grade.
Cell phone use: it is surprising to have to remind people that cell phone use during
instruction is prohibited. It is inappropriate, and shows poor judgment from
people that text or attend to calls during class.
IX. Grading Criteria
Pruebas : 30%
Homework: 15%
Final Exam: 25%
Class Participation/ In-class assignments: 15%
Attendance: 10%
Lab: 5% (Students are required to attend 15 hours per semester)
Grading Scale: The grading scale used for each type of assessment in this class, as well as
the overall semester grade, is as follows (all numbers are in percent %):
94-100 = A
74-76 = C
90-93 = A70-73 = C-
89-87 = B+
67-69 = D+
84-86 = B
60-66 = D
80-83 = B77-79 = C+
59 or less = F
Absences: You are allowed three (3) unexcused absences, after that, I will deduct from
your attendance and participation grade. It is your responsibility to keep up with the
homework assignments so they are turned in on time.
X. Honor and Academic Integrity of the Student: You will be held responsible for
any type of cheating or level of plagiarism. If you are found violating any rule of
academic integrity you will be notified, and your grade will result in an “F”. In
addition, you will be subject to further disciplinary action determined by the
University.
