March 19, 2006 – Written Warning for: Casey Gilbert
The following infractions occurred during the probationary period from February 23, 2006 to
March 23, 2006:
1. Employee consulted with another tour guide about changing tour times on the schedule
and then informed the Manager on Duty (MOD). Mr. Gilbert was informed that any
changes must first go through the MOD and not be decided among the tour guides.
2. Informed Manager on Duty (MOD) that Wild Cave Tour (WCT) guide requested he
come on the tour to begin training. When MOD questioned who made the request, Mr.
Gilbert replied that the WCT guide did. Upon further investigation it was verified that
Mr. Gilbert made the request not the WCT guide. This occurred after Mr. Gilbert had
already been informed that there are to be no changes in tour scheduling.
3. Left a tour unattended to inform the MOD that a crying baby needed to exit the cavern.
After questioning Mr. Gilbert, it was discovered that the Parent’s of the baby asked to be
let out as soon as possible, not immediately. Mr. Gilbert was informed that leaving the
tour is not an option unless it is a 911 emergency.
4. Employee has on several occasions either asked what else can be done when there are
areas that are in need of preparation and are a part of everyday duties, i.e. taco bar not
prepared upon asking. Food personnel informed by Mr. Gilbert that items were chopped
and ready, upon arriving the next day no chopped items could be located in any of the
coolers.
5. Employee was instructed to clock in according to the schedule and not when he decides.
When lost time occurs the employee is not given the opportunity to make those hours up,
unless the hours come available due to large numbers of visitors or employee illness.
Employee returned to check schedule on day off and still clocked in an hour early. It is
the responsibility of the employee to check the time sheet accurately and report to work
accordingly.
6. Popcorn machine: When cleaning the popcorn machine after Mr. Gilbert left, it was
discovered that the bottom of the popcorn holding area was covered with approximately
1/8” of popcorn salt. The kettle was so dirty the lid would not close and the product in
the popcorn hold area was burned and not consumable.
7. Employee’s response time is slow when MOD has requested a task be done.
8. Assigned areas are taken over by Mr. Gilbert even after assigned employee has returned
to post.
9. Employee handed lighter taken from the kitchen to Operations Manager (OM), OM
reported this to MOD and wondered what the employee expected the OM to do with the
lighter. ALL kitchen equipment must remain in the kitchen area; this includes lighters
that are used for the grill, etc.
After serious consideration, it is the opinion of the Assistant Manager, the Operations Manager,
and the General Manager that Mr. Gilbert may not be suited for this position.
This letter of reprimand was delivered and signed for on Sunday, March 19, 2006.
