PET PEEVE SPEECH
Directions: You are to write (a sentence outline) and present a speech about a pet peeve.
The purpose of this assignment: Get you comfortable with speaking to your audience and provide you with
an opportunity to practice getting your point across. This speech will allow you to display great emotion,
both vocally and physically. Use strong, expressive gestures, facial expressions, and words. Your own feelings
will be the source of your speech. Make it powerful!
What is a Pet Peeve?
A Pet Peeve is something that other people do that really bothers you. It is anything that upsets you—a thing
that causes you to anger. It is an act or occurrence, which causes you to have strong feelings. When you
speak about it, you probably get very upset, even angry. You cringe if someone even mentions it!
Examples of Pet Peeves: You hate it when people use all of the toilet paper and don’t replace it, stand in the
middle of the hall so no one can get by, talk on their cell phones while you are hanging out with them, or
interrupt you while you are talking.
