Optimal Health Centre Braddon 8/14 Lonsdale St., Braddon, ACT 2612 02 6162 2919 Our Practice Mission Our mission is to promote a better understanding of the vital connection between optimal health and optimal quality of life. We know that health is so much more than just the absence of pain. Therefore we strive to help our patients reach their fullest innate potential and to achieve this through teamwork, excellent patient care, education and outreach. World Health Organization’s Definition of Health: A state of optimal physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Our Statement of Clinical Objective Our purpose in giving this statement of clinical objective to you to read and sign is simple. We wish to clearly define what we do and what we do not do in this office, so that you may be sure of your and our responsibilities in this exciting relationship. Please be sure to clarify any questions that arise from reading these statements before you begin care in this office. We recognize that there is intelligence within each individual which not only keeps us alive, but coordinates, repairs, renews, and heals every cell of the body. We recognize that the nervous system is a main coordinating system and distribution center for this life power. We recognize that spinal (vertebral) subluxations interfere with the flow of this life power. We recognize that proper coordination, repair, healing, locomotion, motivation, and genetic potential CAN NOT be expressed when this life power is blocked. Vertebral subluxations of the spine do this. Group Adjusting Room: We believe that while people have the right to privacy they also have a right to community. From your second visit forward you’ll be adjusted in a group adjusting room. If you have any questions about this please make a note of it here. Definition of Vertebral Subluxation: Abnormal misalignment or dysfunction between one or more of the 24 vertebra in the spinal column which causes alteration of nerve function and interference to the transmission of mental impulses, resulting in a lessening of the body’s innate ability to express its maximum health potential. We recognize that chiropractic adjustments release the interference to the nervous system increasing its capacity to carry this life power. We recognize that EVERYONE, in spite of their symptoms or ailments, can benefit from a nervous system which is more flexible, elastic, able to grow and develop without the interfering effect of spinal subluxations. 1 We recognize that symptoms are not necessarily a sign of illness, but also occur to alert the individual of the need for change. We recognize that although illnesses may be “incurable,” the individual in whom the illness resides is most often not. We recognize that the specific location of symptoms does not tell the specific location of subluxations, and that the severity of symptoms may not be directly related to the severity of subluxations. We do not discourage seeking medical attention for naming or treating ailments. We recognize that there are many professions that attempt to make people more comfortable by treating their “conditions.” However, in our opinion it is more important to heal and improve overall health by correcting the underlying cause of disease rather than to settle for temporary comfort by suppressing symptoms and act as if healing has really occurred. We understand that the purpose of the adjustment is to allow the internal wisdom of the body to fully express itself. Drugs, such as tranquilizers, muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatory compounds, beta blockers, many anti-hypertensive drugs, and pain-blocking medicines by their very intent interfere with the functioning of the nervous system. Electrical stimulation can also interfere with the spinal adjustments. We will not venture into the practice of medicine by telling you to take or not to take any specific treatment. We do feel it is your responsibility to speak with your physician to determine the objective to be obtained by ingesting any drug or receiving any treatment, and determine if this is consistent with your desire for wellness. We suggest that you seek a physician’s consult in potential reduction of medication levels. As spinal adjustments help a body to normalize, the body chemistry will change. Naturally a medication level for a non-flexible body, stuck in sickness, is not the same as needed for a body on the road to wellness. We choose clinically to help each individual member of our practice achieve a greater level of wellness, flexibility, personal growth and development by initiating the process of recovery through the adjustment of spinal subluxations. Sincerely, Dr. Jason W. Barritt Dr. Andrew Klinkett Chiropractor I ____________________________ have read this statement of purpose, and understand its contents.
