Frequently Asked Questions
What does Chestnut Hill Sound do?
Chestnut Hill Sound (CHS) is redefining digital audio
for the home by providing breakthrough solutions for
iPod users.
CHS has designed GEORGE, a new platform that easily
integrates various digital audio sources for use in the
home and office at affordable prices. GEORGE provides
unprecedented value and convenience by combining into
one product a digital music system for the iPod,
tabletop radio and alarm clock. GEORGE features a
removable front panel that serves as an intuitive
remote for all iPod and system functions including
AM/FM radio and alarm clock.
GEORGE gives consumers unmatched sound quality and
control of their digital music with the ability to
upgrade hardware and software by themselves. Our value
proposition represents a significant change from the
“disposable” mentality of many contemporary consumer
products.
What are GEORGE’s key features?
GEORGE offers consumers a central playback platform,
best in class sound quality, an easy to use wireless
remote, modern styling and next generation product
innovation.
GEORGE’s unified remote fully controls the iPod giving
consumers wireless access to all iPod functions and
navigation. A high resolution screen provides the same
information that is contained on your iPod while
labeling "soft buttons" to tell you how you can get to
where you are going faster. A next generation AM/FM
alarm clock provides a fail safe alarm and an exclusive
BANDLESS™ tuner. Key functions of the wireless remote
include:
1. Enhanced iPod control (navigation) with “jump
buttons” so users can navigate their music database
more quickly;
2. BANDLESS™ Tuning™ for high quality AM/FM radio so
users can preset stations based on interests like
sports, news, talk, etc rather than band.
How will GEORGE incorporate next generation technology
and what is your plan for new products?
GEORGE was specifically architected to accommodate
future digital devices with various hardware modules
and a rear panel USB port that enables software
upgrades. The first optional upgrade module is an HD
radio tuner for delivery later in 2007.
GEORGE contains an Aux in jack for devices such as CD
players and other MP3 players like the iPod shuffle. It
also includes a pre-amp jack out to support the
installed base of larger audio systems to enable the
iPod to serve as a remote controlled “juke box” with a
high quality AM/FM radio.
GEORGE was voiced by audio professionals to more
closely approximate the way music was originally
recorded by emulating the multi-amped “2.1” systems
which are now used to make professional recordings.
GEORGE offers a bi-amped 2.1 system (five speaker
elements) and yields the most balanced sonics available
in iPod playback systems. The system is complemented by
a rear panel sub-woofer control to optimize for the
each room’s acoustic variables and multi-band EQ
accessible through the remote control.
When will GEORGE be available and what is the price?
GEORGE will be available through our web site
www.chillsound.com for $549 in January, 2007.
Distribution at a wide variety of retailers is
anticipated later in 2007.
Did Chestnut Hill Sound work with Apple on the
development of GEORGE?
Chestnut Hill Sound developed GEORGE specifically to
work with iPod and has been certified to meet Apple
performance standards.
When will GEORGE support other music devices?
At this time GEORGE supports iPod 4G and newer models.
Audio sources like CD and other MP3 players are
supported via the line in jack.
Who are GEORGE’s competitors and what differentiates
GEORGE from them?
GEORGE is the only iPod music playback system with full
function remote capabilities, unique Radio and Alarm
system functionality, and superior audio quality.
GEORGE differentiates itself with its wireless
capability that lets consumers control and view all the
functions of their iPod and the radio from their place
of comfort.
Is GEORGE available in other colors besides white?
A variety of colors and finishes on an aftermarket
basis will be offered via our web site. Choices will
include wood and other color finishes. Check our
www.chillsound.com for current availability.
What is different about GEORGE’S RADIO?
GEORGE introduces BANDLESS™Radio which eliminates the
artificial barrier of bands, allowing you to tune and
organize your station according to interest. See Radio
CHS also believes it isn’t radio if it does not have
quality AM and FM reception. Large segments of the
market are interested in News, Talk, Sports, and other
unique AM radio content. In order to accommodate high
quality AM, CHS has included a conventional power
supply. While this type of supply is heavier than the
streamlined switching supplies some audio manufacturers
use, it delivers AM radio performance that conventional
switching supplies can’t. GEORGE also has excellent FM
radio performance.
Why do consumers prefer GEORGE’S remote control over
the Bluetooth remote attachments for the iPod?
Bluetooth technology is adequate for telephone voice
transmission and other limited bandwidth applications.
However, Bluetooth technology further compresses audio
that has already been compressed causing further loss
of fidelity. Bluetooth transmission systems also
degrade higher quality audio formats such as wav files
or Apple Lossless. CHS uses wireless technology for
control data only and takes audio directly from the
iPod without any loss of audio quality.
