OPERA BRASOV – Curriculum Vitae It was founded in 1953 – Musical Theatre on its initial name. In these 60 years of existence, it has been contributing to increase the cultural life of Brasov town (Kronstadt on its former name). Personalities who were on the stage of Brasov Opera Soloists: Virginia Zeani, Nicolae Herlea, Elena Cernei, Ludovic Spiess, David Ohanesian, Eugenia Moldoveanu, Ion Dacian, Octav Enigărescu, Pompei Hărăşteanu, Cleopatra Melidoneanu, Dorin Teodorescu and the nowadays opera stars - Nelly Miricioiu, Felicia Filip, Leontina Ciobanu Văduva, Carmen Oprisanu, Mihaela Ungureanu, Marius Brenciu, Marian Pop, Maria Diaconu, Liliana Faraon etc. Conductors: Jean Bobescu, Petre Sbârcea, Cornel Trăilescu, Ilarion Ionescu Galaţi, Ladislau Roth (Mexico), Corneliu Cal. Stages Directors: Jean Rânzescu, Hero Lupescu, George Zaharescu, Carmen Dobrescu, Cristian Mihăilescu, Alice Barb, Anda Tabacaru–Hogea. Scene –painters: Nicolae Holbea, Gheorghe Codrea, Viorica Petrovici, Rodica Garstea. Choreographers: Oleg Danovski, Francisc Valkay, Edina Papo, Nermina Damian. There have been mounted more than 120 titles of opera, operetta, musicals and ballet. Brasov Opera also successfully took part at many national and international festivals: 1988 – International Festival „George Enescu” Bucharest 1993 – International Opera Festival - Montecatini (Italy) Beginning with 1994 – yearly tours organized in collaboration with Artexim Company - Bucharest in Germany, England, Netherlands , Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, Luxemburg, France, Belgium 2000 – Festival „Mozarteum” from Salzburg, with “La Nozze di Figaro” by W.A. Mozart 2001 – Brasov Opera opens the Concert in the festival „George Enescu” June 2001 – The Lyric Theatre from Brasov became Brasov OPERA, owe to General Manager Christian Mihailescu 2002 and 2003 – takes part in the festivals and concerts in Spain (Alicante, Murcia, Benidorm) 2003 – The first edition of the Festival of Opera, Operetta and Ballet was organized. Famous artists from 3 continents performed. This festival will continue every year. 2004 – Mediterranean Festival from Tivoli - Roma. 2005 – Two premiers: “Les Contes d’Hoffmann by J. Offenbach and “Les pêcheurs de perles“ by G. Bizet 2005 – tour in the rich cultural countries: Germany, England, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, France, with “Les Contes d’Hoffmann by J. Offenbach and “Les pêcheurs de perles“ by G. Bizet 2005 autumn – Opera House from Bravos was redecorated getting a new and great appearance 2006 - “Mozartian Year” –there were mounted by the stage director Ph.Cristian Mihailescu: “Don Giovanni” and “La Nozze di Figaro”. For first time the stage directing mixed multimedia images from NASA and “Don Giovanni” became the first multimedia show on the stage of Brasov Opera. 2006 – Tour in Mozart’s country with “Don Giovanni” and “La Nozze di Figaro” and also in Germany, England, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Spain. 2006 – Premiere “Thumbelina”, a show for children from the story by Hans Christian Andersen; choreographer: Nermina Damian 2006 –The Festival of Opera, Operetta and Ballet, third edition, with the guests from China, France, Russia. December 2006 –“Christmas Concert” of Brasov Opera in the biggest Sale from Brasov with 2000 spectators 2006 -2007 – opera season brings two premiers, both of them in Cristian Mihailescu directing: „Lucia di Lammermoor” by G. Donizetti and „Norma” by V. Bellini. March 2007 – the artists of Brasov Opera took part in an important festival in Spain (Altea) where they played 5 shows „Don Pasquale” by Gaetano Donizetti and „ La Boheme” by Giacomo Puccini and a Concert dedicated to the composer Giuseppe Verdi. April 2007 – tour in Germany, Austria, and Netherlands with „Lucia di Lammermoor” and „Norma”. October 2007 – Opera International Master Class - edition I with CARMEN “ – by Bizet with the teachers: Ph.Cristian Mihăilescu, stage director and General Manager of Brasov Opera and professor Alain Nonat – Artistic Director of Theatre Lyrichoregra 20 – Canada; students from: England, Spain, France, Canada, Italy, Israel and Saint Lucia (Caribbean Islands). October 2007 – take part with the show “Les Contes D’Hoffmann” by J. Offenbach at “ELENA TEODORINI” Festival – edition IX – at Lyric Theatre from Craiova (Romania). October – November 2007 – The Festival of Opera, Operetta and Ballet, Edition V. Participants: “Vienna Opera Company”, National Theatre of Operetta: „Ion Dacian” Bucharest, „Ion Creangă” Theatre-Bucharest, Hungarian Opera from Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and -soloists from Italy, South Korea, Germany. Brasov Opera House took part in this festival with the premiere “Die lustige Witwe” in stage directing of Ph . Cristian Mihăilescu. December 2007 – La Casa de Bernarda Alba (by Michael Ortega), absolute premiere, a Spanish-Romanian co-production between Spain and Romania (Brasov Opera House) and conductor: Miguel Ortega, stage director: Roman Calleja, and the soloists from Brasov Opera. October –November 2008 – The Festival of Opera, Operetta and Ballet, edition VI. 2009 – the premiere of the two inseparable operas: "Cavalleria Rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni and "Pagliacci” by Ruggiero Leoncavallo in stage directing of Cristian Mihăilescu. 2009 – tour in Germany and Austria with "Cavalleria Rusticana"and " Pagliacci”; " La Figlia Del Reggimento"on the most important stage "Festspiellegrosseal" from Salzburg October 2009 – the Festival of Opera, Operetta and Ballet, edition VII with the premiere “L’elixir d’amore” by G. March-April 2010 – in Austria and Germany with “La Traviata” (Verdi),” “L’elixir d’amore” (Donizetti) and: "Barbiere di Sevilla” ( Rossini) October 2007 – Opera International Master Class - edition II with “Fishers of the Pearls “ (opera by Bizet) and the opera “CARMEN” (by Bizet); teachers: Ph.Christian Mihăilescu, stage director and General Manager of Brasov Opera and professor Alain Nonat – Artistic Director of the theatre “Lyrichoregra 20” – Canada; students from: England, Spain, France, Canada, Italy, Israel and Saint Lucia (Caribbean Islands). 2010 – Opera International Master Class - edition III with “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” (opera by J. Offenbach); teachers: Dr. Cristian Mihăilescu (Romania) and Professor Alain Nonat – Theatre Lyrichoregra-Canada September 2010 – Concert in open air –in Counsel Square 2010 – The Festival of Opera, Operetta and Ballet, edition VII with the premiere „FAUST” opera by Charles Gounod in stage directing: Cristian Mihailescu March –April 2011 – tour with the shows Faust by Ch.Gounod and I Capuleti e i Montecchi by V. Bellini in Austria and Germany (organized by the impresario Schlotte). 2011 – Brasov Opera takes part at the courses „SCENART” – support for skills improvement in the Romanian performing arts in collaboration with Scala from Milano which is a program of supporting the culture in Romania April 2011 – CECILIA DOICIU is named general manager of Brasov Opera . 2011 – The Festival of Opera, Operetta and Ballet, with 2 premiers: CARMEN – ballet show (stage director Ion Dorin Coseriu) and the operetta “Die Fledermaus” by J . Strauss (stage director Alice Barb). In Gala of this festival Leontina Vaduva Ciobanu –the famous international soprano was invited to perform. June 2012 – the premiere: operetta by Emmerich Kalman: SYLVIA stage director Anda Tabacaru –Hogea. Costumes and sets by the concept of Rodica Garstea are made in the shops of Brasov Opera. September 2012 – it is opened the series of the operas in one act from Puccinian TRIPTIC with ”Suor Angelica” December 2012 – the thirteen edition of the Christmas Projects for 2013: February 2013 – The Puccinian Triptic goes on with GIANNI SCHICCHI March 2013 – tour in Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Austria with di Figaro” (Mozart) and “Don Pasquale” (Donizetti) “La Nozze June 2013 – the premiere TOSCA (Puccini) November 2013 – Il trovatore (Verdi) IN 2013 BRASOV OPERA HOUSE CELEBRATES 60 YEARS OF EXISTENCE.
