Manufacturer Qualifications: Products shall be free of defects in material and workmanship. B. The devices specified shall comply with Military Standards MIL-STD-105 and 16150-2 1344; ASTM Standards D570 and D2565: NEMA Standard PR4- 1983; and OSHA regulations when installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). 1.6 1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation. B. Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction. Hazardous Location: An area where the possibility of explosion and fire is created by the presence of flammable gases, vapors, dust, fibers or flyings. Provided wiring and installation of electrical fixtures to comply with NEC Hazard Class indicated and as schedule on the drawings. B. Class I-Gas: 1. Class I (NEC-500-5): Those areas in which flammable gases or vapors may be present in the air in sufficient quantities to be explosive or ignitable. 2. Typical Class I Locations: a. Petroleum refineries, and gasoline storage and dispensing areas. b. Industrial firms that use flammable liquids in dip tanks for parts cleaning or other operations. c. Petrochemical companies that manufacture chemicals from gas and oil. d. Dry cleaning plants where vapors from cleaning fluids can be present. e. Companies that have spraying areas where they coat products with paint or plastics. f. Aircraft hangars and fuel serving areas. g. Utility gas plants and operations involving storage and handling of liquified petroleum gas or natural gas. 16150-3 2.3 2.4 C. Class II-Dust: 1. Class II (NEC-500-6): Those areas made hazardous by the presence of combustible dust. 2. Typical Class II Locations: a. Grain elevators, flour and feed mills. b. Plants that manufacture, use or store magnesium or aluminum powders. c. Plants that have chemical or metallurgical processes: producers of plastics, medicines and fireworks, etc. d. Producers of starch or candies. e. Spice-grinding plants, sugar plants and cocoa plants. f. Coal preparation plants and other carbon handling or processing areas. D. Class III-Fibers: 1. Class III (NEC-500-7): Those areas in which there are easily ignitable fibers or flyings present, due to type of material being handled, stored, or processed. 2. Typical Class III Locations: a. Textile mills, cotton gins, cotton seed mills and flax processing plants. b. Any plant that shapes, pulverizes or cuts wood and creates sawdust or flyings. c. Fibers and flyings are not likely to be suspended in the air, but can collect around machinery or on lighting fixtures and where heat, a spark or hot metal can ignite them. E. Division 1-Normally Hazardous: 1. Division 1: Hazardous gases or dusts are present under normal operation conditions or during frequent repair and maintenance activity. 2. Groups A-B-C-D: Groups (NEC-500-2 & 502-1): The gases and vapors of Class I locations are broken into four groups by the code A, B, C and D. These materials are grouped according to: the ignition temperature of the substance, its explosion pressure and other flammable characteristics. 3. Groups E-F-G: Class IIdust locations-groups E, F and G. These groups are classified according to the ignition temperature and the conductivity of the hazardous substance. F. Division 2-Not Normally Hazardous: Hazardous gases or dusts are not present under normal operating conditions. MATERIALS / COMPONENTS A. Russellstoll electrical interconnection systems as manufactured by Thomas and Betts. B. Materials, components and fixtures shall be manufactured and supplied by a single manufacturer. HEAVY INDUSTRIAL / MARINE APPLICATIONS: OUTDOOR, SEVERE OR HIGH ABUSE ENVIRONMENTS / WATERPROOF UN-MATED A. Provide multi-contact: pin and sleeve, industrial grade, arc-quenching, circuit interrupting rated electrical plugs, motor plugs, connectors, receptacles, mechanically interlocked receptacles and assorted accessories as scheduled or indicated on the drawings. 1. Products shall be rated for dry, damp, wet, marine and/or hazardous locations for electrical power circuits as required. 2. The devices shall provide internal environmental seals for marine and extreme wet applications. The devices shall be electrically interlocked where scheduled or required. Gated Dead Front: Receptacles and connectors shall have a rotating disk on the face of the interior which provides live contact isolation and environmental separation. Delayed Action Arc Containment: Devices upon disconnect under load shall have provision so the arc is contained and extinguished within the insulation cavity making it impossible to withdraw a live plug. Flap Cover or Screw Cover: Flap cover option shall provide weather tight capability by utilizing a spring actuated self closing flap. Watertight capability shall be obtained by using a gasketed screw cap. Refer to Schedule. Polarization : Devices shall be factory polarized for amperage, voltage, frequency and phase; providing a single voltage rating, single interface system. Grounding: The grounding of the device shall be accomplished through a separate center ground (earth) make-first and break-last pole on all devices for complete system grounding. Pole Capabilities: Devices shall accommodate up to four power pins plus a separate center ground pin and they shall be integral with the connector bodies (5 pins total). Hazardous Location: Standard plugs 30, 60 and 100 amp shall be UL and CSA listed for hazardous location Class I Division 1, Groups C & D; Class II Division 1, Groups F & G. A hazardous location circuit-breaker protected interlock shall also be applicable to the same environments and possess all the same product features as outlined above. Enclosures shall meet NEMA 8 hazardous outdoor duty classifications and shall meet shipboard use above deck in accordance with the Department of Transportation. (USCG "Green Water"). Lockout Devices: Plug connection lockout shall be achieved by a padlock through plug sleeve housing hole provided for this purpose. On Hazardous Location/Explosion Proof Interlock Receptacles, lockout shall additionally be achieved by separate lockout. Circuit Interrupting Rating: Devices 30, 60, 100 and 200 amperes shall be tested to be interrupted at 150 percent of rated current. Additionally, all devices shall be designed and tested to interrupt 100 percent of rated current. Wiring: Devices shall be wired from the rear requiring no disassembly of the pins and/or sleeves from the insulated body. Performance Standards: 1.
