Human Anatomy & Physiology 01B.3 Body Planes & Sections Planes that divide the body: Sagittal Plane The sagittal plane divides the body into a right and left part. If this is done on the mid-line of the body, it is known as the mid-sagittal plane. Drawing: Transverse Plane This plane divides the body into a superior (top) and inferior (bottom) half. This plane is commonly called a cross section. It is used a great deal in MRI and CT scans. Just remember: frontal section divides the body or and organ to have a front section!
