40a 500 Hour Program Class Outline Form Class Title: Anatomy/Kinesiology of the Shoulder Girdle Course(s) and Hours: .5 anatomy, .5 kinesiology Summary of Content: Past: Intro to Sports/DT Present: See title Future: Maniken, Palpation, Sports and Deep Tissue techniques for this region Class Description Learning Objectives Students understand the movements and agonists for the scapulothoracic* and glenohumeral joints Students remember the two strongest agonists for each movement (note - I have taken liberties with the information provided by the Trail Guide, to be more nearly in line with other sources, as well as to simplify this information) Scapulothoracic, a term used by Trail Guide to the Body, refers to the "joint" between the scapula and the rib cage. There is, in fact, no bony articulation between these two bones. The only bony attachment of the shoulder girdle to the trunk is, of course, the sternoclavicular joint. The two bony surfaces mentioned in the term "scapulothoracic" are actually separated by the subscapularis and serratus anterior muscle bellies Class Outline Time Description 5 minutes 20 Breath of Arrival, Roll Introduce/teach new muscles March 6, 2016 Resources 40a minutes (following the PPT – no handout material for this. Once actions are focused on – see below – Pa VII: 5-6 will be referred to) 15 minutes Anatomy/Kinesiology of Shoulder Girdle (Scapulothoracic joint): Show on skeleton relevant bony anatomy, define/describe/demonstrate the 6 movements, and have students do. Presentation of agonists for each of the six movements, per the handout and PPT. Anatomy/Kinesiology of Shoulder Joint (Glenohumeral joint): Show relevant bony anatomy, define/describe/demonstrate, the 6 movements, and have students do. Presentation of agonists for each of the six movements, per the handout and PPT. Probably not extra!
