Our commitment to inspiring the next generation of performers has led to
the creation of two exciting new projects here at the Centre. We have been
on an extensive recruitment drive to find hundreds of young people from
across Wales to take part in these major performing arts projects over the
next 18 months.
As part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations, we’re staging the Welsh language school edition of
Les Misérables on our Donald Gordon stage; and, a new cohort of young people will form the Centre’s latest
children’s chorus, Only Kids Aloud. This new choir will follow in the footsteps of the 2012 choir that sang with the
Mariinsky Opera and Chorus in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the 2014 choir that shared the stage with Bryn Terfel
and Cape Town Opera in South Africa.
These projects are designed to create life-changing experiences for hundreds of young people, extending their horizons
and thereby increasing ambition and raising aspirations. Additionally, for the Centre, they provide opportunities to bring
together industry leaders to deliver exceptional learning experiences for the young people of Wales.

Les Misérables School Edition, performed by the next generation of Welsh talent, takes place at the Centre
in October and I look forward to unveiling our plans for this year’s Only Kids Aloud Chorus very soon.
Put 12 September in your diary. Not only is it the build up to the first Rugby World Cup matches in
Cardiff, it’s when we’re staging Ar Waith, Ar Daith - a massive outdoor event here in the Bay, created by
world-renowned company Walk the Plank. The spectacular show will take you on a journey through Welsh
myth and magic in performance, song and fire and will feature a cast of over 600 people from across Wales.

One of the biggest new musicals to grace the West
End, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a rare chance to
return to “an all but lost era of musical comedy”
(The Guardian) and relive the golden age of the
classic musical.
Multi award-winning director and choreographer
Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) leads a
creative team which includes the comedy duo who
gave us TV’s Mad About You and West End hit
musical The Full Monty.
Based on the classic comedy film starring Sir Michael
Caine and Steve Martin, you’ll be transported to the
French Riviera and its decadent underworld, as two
seasoned swindlers attempt to hoodwink a millionaire
heiress. As the pair compete in the true art of the con,
they discover there is only room for one of them.
Sophisticated and suave with a good dash of
mischief, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is set to be one
of the finest nights out of 2015.

Autumn 2015 Madness
Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd.
His skin was pale and his eye was odd.
He shaved the faces of gentlemen,
Who never thereafter were heard of again…
With all the best gags, some retro canapés and a
three-course meal, Faulty Towers The Dining
Experience is a loosely scripted, pitch-perfect
‘13th episode’ of the TV series.
Featuring impersonators of the characters made famous
by John Cleese, Prunella Scales and Andrew Sachs,
Basil is manic, Sybil domineering and Manuel hopelessly
language challenged. Just don’t mention the war...

The genius of Sondheim takes this tale of poverty,
madness and spiralling depravity to a whole new level.
He creates a recipe of musical phrases that lodge in
the memory like the richest flavours and aromas of
your favourite meal. Though after this performance,
we’d hesitate to guess that won’t include any variety of
meat pie…
Clever lyrics drive the story along with pace and pitch
black humour, drawing you - almost against your
will - into the world of a man pushed over the edge of
reason by the powerful elite of his day through false
imprisonment and the loss of the woman he loves.
Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by Hugh Wheeler
From an adaptation by Christopher Bond

Original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick
Originally produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward,

Wales Millennium Centre is proud to be the first venue
to host Relics, an impressive and large scale multimedia
exhibition from Wales based artist Matt Wright.
Relics is a study of historical sites around Wales,
including medieval castles, fortifications and abbeys,
captured in 360º with the latest digital technology.
Documenting these sites, the artist has produced a
series of unique spherical sculptures, HD films and
2D work which will be placed throughout the Centre.
The spheres will be interactive and there will also be
an immersive 360º video tent situated in our foyer on
special dates throughout the exhibition. Be sure to
check our website for further information.

Creative Learning
For a sixth consecutive year, Black History Month
finale celebrations at the Centre were a huge success,
thanks to our continuing partnership with the Black
History Month Association Wales. Each and every year,
we celebrate the contribution of the black diaspora
to Wales in style with lively performances, family
workshops and activities and delicious Caribbean food.
We’re looking forward to this October already!
Music has always been an inherent part of Tiger Bay
and we recently celebrated this heritage with our
neighbouring community at Night at the Casablanca.
With over 70 local artists playing a variety of blues,
jazz, gospel, reggae, ska, drum ’n’ bass and RnB, we
all danced until the early hours and hope to continue
hosting similar events on a more regular basis.

Ballet’s greatest love story returns in Birmingham
Royal Ballet’s lavish production of the timeless
classic Swan Lake. This romantic fable of ill-fated
passion, powerfully illuminated by Tchaikovsky’s
legendary score, has bewitched audiences for
generations.
Direct from its première at Chichester Festival
Theatre, this major new production of the classic
Broadway musical Mack & Mabel stars double
Olivier award-winning Michael Ball as Mack
Sennett.
By a moonlit lake, a grieving prince is astonished to
witness the transformation of a swan into a beautiful
princess. Compelled by an evil spell to spend her days
in the form of a bird, she can only be saved by the
power of love.
Acknowledged by The Guardian as "one of the world’s
finest productions of the ballet ", this Swan Lake is
atmospheric, romantic, and beautiful.

In a production by a multi-award winning team, with
direction by Jonathan Church and choreography by
Stephen Mear, this dazzling musical comedy is both
a poignant love story and a riveting tribute to the
grit and glamour of the era of silent movies.
Based on the real-life romance between Hollywood
legends Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand, it tells the
story of a group of pioneering filmmakers who changed
the world surrounded by heroes in capes, girls tied
to the tracks, glamorous Bathing Beauties and the
slapstick chaos of the Keystone Kops.
Mack & Mabel features an outstanding score by Jerry
Herman and is widely admired for its classic Broadway
hits including I Won't Send Roses and Time Heals
Everything.

Os oes gennych nam neu ofyniad mynediad penodol, gall
mwynhau ymweliad i’r Ganolfan fod yn fwy cymhleth na dim
ond archebu tocynnau. Rydyn ni’n falch o fod yn rhan o Hynt,
sef cynllun hygyrchedd cenedlaethol newydd. Ewch i
hynt.co.uk neu wmc.org.uk/hygyrchedd am fanylion.
If you have an impairment or a specific access requirement,
enjoying a visit to the Centre can be more complicated than
just booking tickets. We're delighted to be joining a new
national access scheme called Hynt. Visit hynt.co.uk or
wmc.org.uk/access for full details.
