Texts: Required: Course pack custom bound for PSY 4122 and available at The Agora
Bookstore. *Please see the Required Reading List in your course pack to ascertain which
readings correspond to which topic.
Recommended: Joannides, P. The Guide to Getting it On. (7th Ed.) Oregon: Goofy Foot Press.
Format:
Lecture and class participation. Given that class discussion is to be encouraged
and in order to allow all students to participate openly, no recording devices or
electronic devices of any kind are permitted in the classroom.
Evaluation:
Mid-Term Test 30%
Final Exam 35%
Essay/Critique 35%
OR
Mid-Term Test 40%
Final Exam 60%
The date of the mid-term test is scheduled tentatively for Wednesday, February 25, 2015. The
final exam will be held during the exam period. The format for both tests will consist of a
combination of objective and essay questions, with emphasis on the former on the mid-term test
and emphasis on the latter on the final exam. You are welcome to write in French or English.
The optional assignment is due on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Please print all assignments in
20-point font. If you choose this option, you are required to write one of three possible essays:
The first involves writing a critique/comparison of two of the selected books (marked with an
asterisk) from the bibliography. The book critique/comparison is expected to be approximately
2,500 words in length (see "Book Critique/Comparison Guidelines"). Books are available at the
MST Library and at the Agora Bookstore. The second assignment involves writing a
critique/comparison of two of the selected films from the film list. The film critique/comparison
is expected to be approximately 2,500 words in length (see "Film Critique/Comparison

Guidelines"). The third assignment involves submitting an essay, which is expected to be
approximately 2,500 words in length. Please select the books/films/topic/assignments of your
choice and indicate these in writing with a brief description or outline for approval as soon as
possible and no later than January 28, 2015 in order to receive final approval by Wednesday
February 4, 2015. Professors of the School of Psychology are required to retain a copy of the
major assignment for one year. If you would like your essays/critiques returned to you, please
submit two copies of each assignment and a stamped, self-addressed envelope. All students have
the right to produce their work and to answer examination questions in the official language of
their choice.
Please do not use Internet or Web sources for your assignments, except via MST/RGN.
In the case of exams and any written assignments, plagiarism will result in the application of
sanctions as outlined by the University of Ottawa's policy on academic fraud (see Social
Sciences calendar). Sanctions range from a mark of zero for the work concerned to expulsion
from the University with a statement on the student's academic transcript.
Examples of plagiarism are:
1. submitting a work, in whole or part, of which the student is not the author (except for duly
cited quotations or references);
2. presenting research data which have been falsified or concocted in any way;
3. attributing a purported statement of fact or reference to a source which has been falsified or
concocted;
4. submitting the same piece of work or significant part thereof for more than one course
without written authorization of the professors concerned and/or of the academic unit
concerned.

● The Access Service helps students with a physical handicap or learning disability. It is
part of the SASS.
