Student Recruitment Info

The following is a brief rundown of the message that each of our alumni
volunteers should know by heart while helping with recruitment efforts. I’m
always here to help so please let me know if anything needs to be cleared
up at all.
We don’t consider letters of recommendation as part of the admissions
process. If a student would like to submit one or more, they’re free to do so
but they likely won’t be considered. Admission is merit based and the
requirements are outlined below.
It's very important to apply as early as possible and the application for
admission opened online the current senior class on August 1st at
www.lsu.edu/admissions. I strongly encourage every student interested in
LSU to submit their application and contact ACT either by phone or at
www.act.org and let them know to send all of their official scores to us
using our school code 1590. For those who take the SAT, the process is
the same – in that SAT must send those scores to us electronically using
our school code 6373.
The benefit of applying early is that the student’s application will be in our
system before November 15th, the deadline for priority scholarship
consideration and Honors College consideration. In order to successfully
meet this deadline, their application, transcript (automatically loaded for
them if they’re a Louisiana student), and their ACT or SAT scores must be
in our system by then.
As they continue to retake the ACT throughout their senior year, make
sure to have ACT send those scores to us. Although we don't super score
ACT scores, we will always use the highest composite, Math, and English
scores from multiple tests. The following are our automatic admission
requirements.
1. 22 ACT composite score
- 19 Math
- 18 English
2. 3.0 unweighted Core GPA (the core classes are outlined in our
brochures on page 2 and on our website)
If a student happens to not be meeting all of those requirements, they
should still apply early because we do have a holistic review process
where we consider and admit some students who don't meet 100% of the
automatic requirements. Our holistic review process will start much earlier
than ever before this year so that’s another reason to apply now. Even
after November 15th, students still need to apply as soon as they feel LSU
is a top 5 school that they’re considering. I’ve included some useful links
below so please check them out. Please feel free to contact me anytime
you have any questions or concerns and I'll be more than happy to help
however I can.

One of the most important things to remember while assisting with
recruitment efforts is to never bring up athletics as a recruitment tool. This
is both unprofessional and unethical. Students already know LSU has elite
athletic programs so there’s no reason to talk about them. Inevitably,
students will bring up football and other sports while talking to recruiters
and volunteers and when that happens, it’s okay to speak briefly about the
subject but we never use the fact that students can come to LSU and have
a great time going to football games or tailgating as a recruiting tool. This
would be a good time to bring up the NACAC Code of Ethics. Each college
or university, recruiter, and everyone else who actively participates in the
recruitment of students must follow the NACAC Ethics. This is the National
Association for College Admission Counseling’s ethics pertaining mostly to
the enrollment management team but has a very heavy influence on
student recruitment. I ask that any alumni volunteer please read through
the sections that pertain to recruitment of students before actively assisting
in recruitment efforts for LSU.
