BABE RUTH LEAGUE College Scholarship Criteria BABE RUTH LEAGUE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP As college costs are a major challenge for most families, in 2001, Babe Ruth League established a College Scholarship program to provide financial assistance to former Cal Ripken Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball and Babe Ruth Softball players looking to further their education beyond high school. Funds for the Babe Ruth League College Scholarship are generated from the annual Babe Ruth League Alumni Golf Outing, along with donations from Babe Ruth League partners K&K Insurance and Rawlings Sporting Goods. In order to be considered for a Babe Ruth League College Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria: You must have participated in a Cal Ripken Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball or Babe Ruth Softball League anytime during the ages of 4-18. You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. You must be a high school senior or an enrolled college student at the time of application. You must be enrolled at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university. You must complete an application to be submitted to Babe Ruth League, along with a copy of your official high school transcript, 200-word essay, and verification of registration at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university, by June 30 of each year. (If verification of college enrollment is not available at the time of application submission and you are selected to receive a scholarship, such verification will be required before a check is issued. Accepted forms of verification include a tuition bill or semester schedule.) Babe Ruth League College Scholarships are awarded based on an applicant’s high school academic achievement, participating activities, community involvement and on the contents of the essay. The Babe Ruth League College Scholarship is a one-time award and cannot be combined with any other Babe Ruth League sponsored scholarship. The awarding of a Babe Ruth League College Scholarship is not dependent upon collegiate athletic participation. Babe Ruth League employees and their immediate families are not eligible to qualify for any Babe Ruth League sponsored scholarship. IRBY LUQUETTE ENDOWMENT College Scholarship Criteria IRBY LUQUETTE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP The Irby Luquette Endowment Scholarship was established in 2014 by Luquette’s son, Gary Luquette. The endowment is available each year to award deserving Babe Ruth League graduates from the Southwest Region (Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas) with a college scholarship. (First consideration is given to students from Louisiana. If award criteria is not met, consideration will be given to students from the other states in the southwest region.) The funds may be applied to tuition and/or books. Irby Luquette of Abbeville, Louisiana, has given close to 60 years of dedicated service to Babe Ruth League as a coach, manager, League President, District Director, State Commissioner, Regional Commissioner, Tournament Director and World Series consultant.
