SUNY Plattsburgh offers high quality academic courses to a diverse body of students (including adults,
senior citizens, high school students, and traditional students) from local, regional, state, national and
international learning communities.
A Few Weeks Can Make A Difference
Learning and recreational opportunities abound during summer session in Plattsburgh. Session A
(May 21 – June 1) courses permit students to complete up to three credit hours by the beginning of June.
Session B (June 4 – July 3) allows students to finish one or more courses before mid summer. Session C
(July 9 – August 12) accommodates students who prefer midsummer study.
Nearly 2,000 students enroll in summer classes for a variety of reasons — to get a taste of college life for
the first time; to get a head start on the fall semester; to accelerate or complete their degree programs; to
comfortably spread course work across the calendar year; to meet new friends; to take courses for professional or personal development; to enhance career opportunities; or just to have fun. More than 200 credit
courses and workshops in a wide variety of areas are offered during the three summer sessions.

ARTS AND CULTURAL EVENTS
CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Exhibitions and performances on the campus and in
surrounding communities are plentiful during the summer months. A unique blend of local talent, student
accomplishment and professional presentations create
a place for a wide variety of participants and audiences.
The Plattsburgh State Art Museum features the Rockwell
Kent collection, and the Nina Winkel Sculpture Court.
The staff of the Career Development Center offers
services to students and alumni to assist them in the
exploration of interests, skills, and priorities essential
to the career planning process. Services are available
to all SUNY Plattsburgh students and alumni. Students
are encouraged to make contact with the Center staff
early in their Plattsburgh experience. This can be done
by visiting the second floor Kehoe Building location
or by calling 564–2071 to schedule an appointment.
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30
p.m., year round.
CAMPUS BOOKSTORE
Textbooks required for each course are available in
the College Store prior to the start of each course.
College Store summer hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Monday through Friday. Textbooks and required
supplies can be ordered online at
www.mypsubookstore.com.
The Bookstore will be open until 6 p.m. on June 4
and July 9. Call 564-2082 or 1-877-778-4438. The
Check Cashing window will be open 9 a.m. to 3:30
p.m., Monday through Friday.
CAMPUS RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
Plattsburgh’s facilities for athletics, physical
conditioning, and recreation are superb.
Memorial Hall features a gymnasium, swimming pool,
racquetball courts, and a state-of-the-art fitness center.
It is located in the center of campus and is the hub for
recreation and intramurals for students. In addition to
Memorial, a gym is located in Sibley Hall and it is used
for recreation and intramurals. Fields behind Memorial
Hall are used by intramurals and sports clubs and there
are also six lighted tennis courts.
The Field House Gymnasium is used for intercollegiate
practices (soccer, track & field, lacrosse, softball, baseball) and intramural soccer. High school playoffs and
other sporting events, commencement, concerts, exhibitions, special invents, indoor tournaments, and craft fairs
are also held in the gymnasium. The Ronald B. Stafford
Ice Arena has seating for 3,500 and is used for ice hockey
and public skating when ice time is available.
Around the Field House are six tennis courts that
are used by the women’s intercollegiate tennis team.
The area surrounding the Field House has game and
practice fields for soccer, baseball, lacrosse, and softball.
An artificial surface soccer/lacrosse field added in Fall
2005 has become a welcome addition to the excellent
athletic facilities available to the College and community. In addition, the country course starts and ends at
the Field House.

Specific services provided include career counseling,
employment assistance for graduating seniors (including credentials service, campus interviewing, and
employment referrals), student part–time employment
services, educational/occupational information, workshops, advisement regarding educational alternatives,
testing, test interpretation, and computer assisted
career guidance programs.
CENTER FOR STUDENT HEALTH &
PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES
A nurse is available for consultation and referrals at
the Center from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.,
Monday through Friday. The administrative offices
are open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.,
Monday through Friday. The Center is located off
Rugar Street directly behind Saranac Hall.

HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE
REGIONAL RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
On–campus residence halls, conveniently located
near classroom buildings are available from May 20 to
August 11, 2007. Single and double occupancy accommodations are available in a traditional residence hall
setting. Roommate requests can be accommodated.
Lake Champlain, within walking distance of the campus, is a favorite spot for enthusiasts of water sports of
all kinds. Three state parks and the city beach on the
shores of Lake Champlain are within a short drive of
the campus. They offer sandy beaches, fireplace and
picnic areas, rest room and dressing facilities, concession stands, swimming, walking trails, camping sites and
spectacular, panoramic views of the historic lake.
A “Summer Off–Campus Housing List” is available
for arranging an apartment for the summer (usually on
a monthly rental basis). For more information, contact

Plattsburgh is also the North Country’s gateway to the
Adirondack Mountains. The Adirondack Park, the largest
park area in the Northeastern United States, features
myriad opportunities for hiking, climbing, hunting, fishing, boating, golfing, swimming, rock climbing, camping, picnicking and relaxing in a beautiful setting. Lake
Placid, America’s Olympic community in the center of
the Adirondacks, is less than an hour’s drive from the
campus.
Burlington, Vermont’s largest city, is also less than an
hour from Plattsburgh. Students respond to its New
England charm, its many boutiques, and its location
provides easy access to all points in New England.
And Montreal, one hour away in Canada, provides
rich cultural contrasts — museums, festivals, concerts,
and restaurants.

UNIVERSITY POLICE SECURITY INFORMATION
The Student Association continues to operate,
providing limited services during summer sessions.
Traditionally the SA has provided for several outing
trips, discounts to local events, a campus B-B-Q, while
we continue our responsibility to provide a student
voice on campus issues as they arise. Please feel free
to stop in and share your ideas so that we might serve
you better. We are located in the Angell College

University Police (UP) has front-desk personnel on duty

Undergraduate courses (100-400 level) are open to
high school juniors and seniors, high school graduates, individuals who hold degrees, and adults with
less formal education. Graduate courses (500 level)
are open only to individuals who hold a bachelor’s
degree.
You may access the Web from any computer at home
or from any of Plattsburgh’s computer labs. If you are
registering for Plattsburgh’s courses at our Adirondack
Community College (Queensbury) site, we welcome
you to use the computer lab located in the Scoville
Learning Center or the computer located in our ACC
extension office.

4. Enter USER ID: enter your social security number

and is effective only during your first login. You

COURSE LOAD
The maximum number of credit hours allowed during
summer session is 15 credits for undergraduate and
graduate students.
Students may be granted permission to exceed the
maximum number of credits allowed per session by
completing the Permission for Credit Overload form
available at the Registrar’s Office, 3rd floor Kehoe
(518-564-2100). This form requires written approval
from the student’s academic advisor and department
chairperson; non-matriculated students must receive
permission from the director of admissions.

A NOTE TO STUDENTS
SUNY Plattsburgh students who intend to take summer
courses should discuss appropriate course selection
with their academic advisor while meeting for Fall 2007
course advisement: March 26 - April 6. The responsibility
to meet the requirements for graduation at the intended
graduation date, both with respect to selecting courses
and to completing them satisfactorily, ultimately rests
with the student.

COURSE WITHDRAWALS
Students must obtain the instructor’s signature on the
Course Schedule Adjustment Form and submit this
form to the Registrar’s Office by the midpoint of the
course. The Course Schedule Adjustment Form is
required for a withdrawal processed after the
midpoint of the course; signature of the dean is
required. A W (withdrawal) grade notation will be
entered on the student’s academic record.

All students are responsible for the accuracy of their
registration and the tuition and fees associated
with course registration. Non-attendance does not

Summer bills will be available after course registration.
Payment is due by the first day of summer session.
If course adjustments are made after your bill is available, please make the necessary adjustments on
Banner Web or your paper bill. If you make adjustments on your paper bill, return the bill with payment.
TUITION & FEES
Tuition and expenses may be subject to change after
publication including tuition and fee increases due to
currency exchange rate fluctuations for study abroad
programs.
Students who are classified as out-of-state residents
for tuition purposes but believe they are eligible for
in-state tuition may apply for consideration as in-state
residents. To be considered, they need to complete a
residency application and submit the application along
with requested documents to the director of student
accounts. Instructions and an application are available
on the student accounts’ website at www.plattsburgh.
edu/studentaccounts.
Tuition and fees during summer session vary according to the number of credit hours you are registered
for during all sessions. Although fees cap at 12 credit
hours, tuition does not have a cap.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR BILL ONLINE
1. Go to www.plattsburgh.edu and click on “Login to
Banner Web” and then login.
2. Click on the “Financial Services Menu” link.
3. Click the “Summer 2007 - Adjust Bill, Accept
Charges, Make Payment” link.
5. Select your optional fees.
6. Click [Update Charges] button.
7. Click [Accept Charges] button.
8. At the bottom of the “Account Summary with
Financial Aid” screen,
Click [Make a Credit Card Payment] or

Click [Enroll in the College Payment Plan].
9. Print a receipt for your records.
LATE PAYMENT
Please make payment by the due date to avoid administrative and late payment fees. Bills process after
the bill due date will be assessed an administrative
fee of up to $50. A late payment fee of up to $50 per
month thereafter may be charged on outstanding balances, up to a maximum of $200 per semester.
RETURN CHECK POLICY
A student who has paid his or her bill by a check
which is returned by his/her bank will be considered
not registered. A returned check charge of $30.00
must be paid when check is redeposited or replaced.
Students who wish to take advantage of our payment
plan may use the form on Banner Web or use the
worksheet below. You must also complete the
“Payment Plan” form on page 31.
REFUNDS
Tuition refunds will be pro-rated as of the date that
the Office of the Registrar is notified. To obtain a refund of tuition, it is necessary to make the request in
writing to the Office of the Registrar. You will need to
give your name, social security number, correct course
number, section and title.

The first day of any scheduled classes shall be considered the first day of Summer Session. The first week
of classes, for refund purposes, shall be deemed to
have ended when seven calendar days, including the
first day of scheduled classes, have elapsed. Except
for Title IV financial aid funds, account balances less
than $5 may not be refunded unless specifically
requested by a student. Otherwise, the balance may
be forfeited.

FINANCIAL AID
The Financial Aid office is located on the 4th floor of
Kehoe (Kehoe 406). You may contact the financial

will complete degree requirements in August

How does my academic standing affect my summer
financial aid eligibility?
At the end of each spring semester, Financial Aid staff
reviews your cumulative GPA and your progress toward
your degree. If minimum standards are not met, you
have two options:
1. You may take summer courses to work to correct
deficiencies without financial aid OR
2. Document an extraordinary personal situation that
prohibited your academic progress. The review committee must accept your explanation and be granted a
waiver before you can receive financial aid for the summer. See the Plattsburgh State University Undergraduate
Catalog for more details.
If your academic record has not been reviewed (usually done in June) before you begin summer courses
and you have deficiencies, aid may be cancelled and
you must pay your own bills. In this case, the only alternative is a private loan, if you and a co-signer meet
eligibility criteria.
How much financial aid can I receive in summer?
The amount of your financial aid is based on the number of credits you register for and the number of weeks
you are enrolled. (Note: No financial aid is available if
you only enroll in pre or post session courses.) Adding
or dropping courses, switching sessions of enrollment,
and withdrawing from courses or college before summer
completion will affect your eligibility, cause a delay in
disbursement and may lead to being ineligible.
Since summer is part of the 2006 – 2007 aid package,
you are only eligible for the amount of Pell and Direct
Student Loans remaining after the fall and spring semesters. If you attended full–time during fall and spring,
your award may be exhausted, and you may want to
consider an alternative/private loan. TAP, however is
treated differently. Summer TAP awards will reduce
the final payment (8th) for TAP, and (10th) payment for
EOP students. Students may receive financial aid only
once for a course with an acceptable grade earned for
graduation. Receiving aid for a repeat course is only
allowed if the repeat is required for graduation and the
student received an initial grade that was not acceptable for graduation.
FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION
When will I receive my summer financial aid?
Pell and Direct Loan checks are expected to begin
arriving in late–June. Alternative loans may require 6–8
weeks from the date of application. You may need to be
prepared to cover all your personal and off-campus living expenses. Summer tuition and fees can often be deferred, if the college has received your application results.

ADIRONDACKS – HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY
Evolution of geographic patterns of human endeavors
from initial exploration through mid-twentieth
century. Settlement, population, transportation,
economic activities, ethnicity and cultural landscapes
emphasized. Field trips to Great Camps, former
mining and mill towns, abandoned farms, mines,
cemeteries, resort hotels and the Adirondack
Museum at Blue Mountain Lake. Liberal arts credit.

EXERCISE PROGRAM DESIGN
This online course examines the knowledge necessary
to design and implement proper exercise programs
for diverse populations and fitness levels. Information

have made a significant contribution to the history of

SEA KAYAKING
Includes discussion of the history of kayaks with
attention to the evolution of kayak and paddle design.
Skill development includes a variety of paddle strokes,

refining and advancing sea kayaking skills, with special
attention to advanced dimensions of the forward
stroke, variant rescue skills, use of the lower body for

This class will explore the world of sports
broadcasting. Students will hone their on-air playby-play and color commentary skills, as well as

YOUR ONLINE COURSE
All online courses begin on the first day of classes.
Summer Session start dates vary so pay close
attention to the dates for the course in which you are
registered. SUNY Plattsburgh offers online courses
through two course management systems: ANGEL
and SLN (SUNY Learning Network). If you are unsure
which of these course management systems is being
used for your online course, you can log directly
into your personal account in the ANGEL Course
Management system to view your course lists and find
direct links to your online (web) course.
The Link to the ANGEL Course Management system

the SUNY Plattsburgh web site www.plattsburgh.edu
in the lower right hand corner.
You will need to use your Plattsburgh Net ID to
access the ANGEL system. Every student at
Plattsburgh State has an ANGEL and Web mail
account that can be accessed by entering your
assigned Net ID. Your Net ID makes it possible to
for you to access various electronic systems on
campus and is an essential component to your
college experience. If you need additional
information about or assistance with your Plattsburgh
Net ID, you can check the informational web page

the “New Students” link will assist you in activating
your SLN account. If you have previously participated
in an SLN course, the “Returning Students” link will

Returning students should not attempt to reactivate
their password as a “New Student.”
The SUNY Learning Network opens the Student
Gateway and Student Commons one week prior to
the start date. As soon as the Student Gateway is
