Q1) Codes and conventions Create a spider diagram/list to outline the conventions of action adventure films. Check your spellings of the key terms using Quizlet. a) What types of characters do we expect? How is this shown in the clip? b) What types of narratives do we expect? How is this shown in the clip? Refer to the revision pack to check your answer (p20) Watch a clip and practice a response – spend no more than 8mins. 25th May Q2) MECS Go over each element of MECS (mise-en-scene, editing, camerawork and sound) on a different day. Note down the keys terms for each area of MECS and their general connotative effect. Refer to the revision guide/Quizlet to check your answer. Once you have gone over each element, watch a clip twice and practice noting down examples from MECS. Do not look out for editing and camerawork during the same viewing. Practice writing your response for Q2 – no more than 5 mins for each element. Did you manage to write two PEE paragraphs for each? 1st June Q3) Representation Watch a clip and identify how different types of people are represented. Refer to stereotypes – do they conform or subvert them? How? Provide specific examples from the clip. Refer to the revision guide (p13) and complete the activities before practicing a question. Practice a timed response = 20 mins. You should be able to complete approximately 4-6 paragraphs. 8th June Q4) TV Comedy Go over key terminology again on Quizlet. a) Scheduling Create a table to compare and contrast The Big Bang Theory and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. What time is it on? Why? What day is it on? Why? What channel is it on? Why? Refer to the channel’s ethos b) Audience pleasures Create a Venn diagram to compare and contrast why people watch both shows. Ensure you have specific examples from at least two different episodes.
