The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is the leading organization of pediatric caregivers in the United States
with over 60,000 members.
Objective
The AAP was interested in identifying creating value for members, parents, and patients and
identifying new sources of revenue.
Results
Conducted market research to evaluate the possibilities for a digital platform for delivering
child health information. Completed an Opportunity Assessment to determine the size of the
market, to estimate the economic potential for a potential venture, and to evaluate various
business models.
Developed the Business Plan for a new online venture to generate millions in sustainable
revenue. The Business Plan was approved by the AAP Board of Directors and launched to a
US and international audience in December 2009.
In addition, the AAP has retained Balanced Growth to develop a Business Plan for its most
important revenue initiative to deliver value added services to 20,000 pediatric practices
nationwide.

Case Study
HealthyChildren.org is the premier destination for child health information for parents and caregivers on the Web
and is the only site backed by the full force of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Objective
The AAP is the gold standard for child health content and is a major book publisher with over 8
million copies in print. The AAP hired Balanced Growth to manage the strategy and execution
of its new online business venture to reach 30 million families.
Results
Managed all aspects of the new business venture including putting an internal and external
team in place; implementing the revenue strategy; selecting the technology vendor; working
with the vendor and team to design, develop, and test the site; and developing the branding,
marketing and launch strategies.
Successfully launched HealthyChildren.org in less than one year to a US and international
audience in December 2009.
In addition to being the premier destination for child health information on the Web; the site
generated revenue prior to launch and is ahead of revenue projections. Additionally, the digital
platform will enable new innovations such as mobile applications and multimedia.

Objective
se2 wanted to improve its ability to articulate, manage, and price its complex portfolio of
