Year 6 Performance at Chester Cathedral
Heroes With Grimy Faces!
On Tuesday evening, after weeks of preparation and rehearsals, our
Year 6 pupils ‘took to the stage’ and performed – alongside the
Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service Choir and pupils from Culceth
Primary School, St Bridget’s Catholic Primary School, Parkroyal
Community Primary School and Woodlands Primary School – in a
musical extravaganza entitled Heroes With Grimy Faces at Chester
Cathedral.
It was a fabulous occasion and it was terrific to see our pupils being
supported by so many parents, brothers, sisters, school governors
and other members of their family in the audience. The quality of
the singing, and the confidence shown by all of our Year 6 pupils,
was of an extremely high standard; and the fact that all of the
words (lyrics) used throughout the 45 minute performance were
written and scripted by the children themselves, made the evening
even more special! It really was a night that demonstrated many of
the great things that young people can achieve if they are given the
opportunities to shine.
The performance focused on the history of the Fire Service and was
coordinated by the Manchester Camerata. The children who took
part, therefore, gained a huge amount of historical knowledge,
significantly enhanced their musical understanding and
appreciation, developed their vocabulary and literacy skills, and – I
am sure – will remember this evening for a long time to come! It
was great to see how proud they felt at the end of the evening –
following a standing ovation from the audience!
Thank you to everybody who took part in our non-uniform day today and
made a donation towards our PTA Fund-Raising Events this Christmas.
We are still collecting items for our Christmas Fayre, so if you have any
unwanted toys, games, books, DVDs, bottles, chocolates, etc – that could be
used or sold on one of the stalls – please bring these into school. We have a
series of labelled boxes in the school office for these items to be placed in at
any time over the next two weeks.
The Christmas Bingo will take place on Monday evening (1st
December). It costs 50p entrance (which includes a drink and
a mince pie) and it’s 30p a book (which includes 5 games).
Children are welcome to attend – but MUST be accompanied
by an adult. It is “Eyes Down” at 6:30pm; so people are
welcome to arrive at school – to take a seat and enjoy a drink – from
6:00pm. There will also be a tombola, with tickets costing £1 for five goes;
so you may wish to bring some extra money with you!
The Christmas Fayre will take place on Friday 12th December,
immediately after school finishes at 3:10pm. It will end at
4:45pm. Once again, it will be great to see lots of people
coming along and supporting the PTA.
The money raised by the PTA is used for a wide variety of things. The PTA
helps to significantly reduce the cost of school trips by regularly making
donations to cover the vast majority of the transport costs, pays for people
(such as theatre companies and special visitors) to come into school,
purchases additional equipment for school, and funds special treats (such as
the Christmas crackers each child is given as part of their Christmas lunch,
and sweets and drinks that are handed out at the school discos).
Furthermore, they do a great job in organising school community events that
the children, and their families, enjoy!
Well done to everybody who took part! You were brilliant!!!

Christmas Jumper Day
Year 3’s Egyptian Class Assembly
On Wednesday morning, the children in Year 3
showcased their knowledge of Ancient Egypt, in an
interesting and humorous assembly that included
facts about mummification, Egyptian gods, pharaohs
and the discovery, by Howard Carter, of
Tutankhamun’s tomb.
It was very clear that the children have thoroughly
enjoyed learning about this period of history, and
they had great fun relaying some of their knowledge
to the rest of the school during their special assembly.
The children had been challenged to learn a large number of lines
and delivered their lines clearly. Thank you to everybody who has
helped the children practise; especially Miss Thomas and Mrs
Colebrook (who have made this such an interesting and enjoyable
topic since the very first week in September)!

Happy
Following its success last year, our school has agreed to take part in
Christmas Jumper Day again this year.
This is a great way to get the children, and the staff, in a festive mood in the
run up to our Christmas Fayre that evening. Equally, by donning a festive
sweater (or a Christmas hat, headband or other Christmas accessory), on
Friday 12th December, you could be helping raise money for Save The
Children’s life-saving work around the world – from Syria to South Sudan,
Brazil to Bangladesh. And this year, your money will go even further
because every pound you give will be match-funded by the UK government
– doubling your donations.
Therefore, if you would like to make a donation to wear Christmas clothing
on 12th December, please send this into school on the day. This money will
be collected and sent to Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day appeal.
