different than what you are accustomed to at home.
!   Breakfast typically includes cereal, bread or rolls, jam,

discoveries of your own and your tour director can
provide recommendations. Don’t forget to tip if the

!   Included dinners will either be familiar dishes or local
specialties. Students will be expected to pay for soft
drinks and other beverages at dinner. Table water is
always provided free of charge; bottled water is
provided only in those countries where deemed
necessary by locals.
!   Check out the links on the webpage for info!
!   No matter where you travel, there is a tremendous amount
to see and do – and only so much time to do it all! For that
reason, most EF itineraries are packed with activities.
!   Be prepared for your days and evenings to be busy.
!   Also, bring comfortable footwear! Many sightseeing tours
are on foot, so there is a lot of walking.
!   Do not make the mistake of trying to break in a new pair of
shoes.
!   It is crucial that everyone be
punctual on tour – from wake up
calls, to sightseeing tours and
meeting times.
!   Wear a watch!
!   Make sure you know where and
when your group is meeting.
4 2/12/14 !   EF eKit phone cards are a great way to keep in touch with
those at home – at great rates. All you have to do is add
money and activate it.
!   Always check with your hotel to see if they charge any
connection fees, since they can be very expensive. It is
usually better to use public phones.
!   You want to use your own phone card that you can prepurchase to check in with your family
!   In the event that we need to contact your family, the
telephone tree will be activated.
!   Make sure your emergency contact has the sheet.
!   If at any time you need to contact your traveler or myself,
you may do so by:
!   Calling or texting me at 1 705 344 0085
!   Emailing me at rachellemack@bell.net
!   Hotels will have WIFI so you can send messages when
you get back to the hotel
!   Make sure you check with you cell phone company to find
out what the rates are when you are in California.
!   Some plans will still allow for texting, but check to make
sure.
!   Keep in mind the roaming charges apply!
!   If you have your cell phone with you, there are some
places where it will not be allowed (studios etc) and you
will have to check it, or not bring it.
!   If you are now planning on bringing one, then make sure
we have the number.
!   Don't wear expensive-looking clothes or
jewelry.
!   Don't walk around alone; stay with your group
or your travel buddy. But you knew that
already… right?
!   Be aware of your purse/wallet all the time and
keep your money in a safe place. We know
it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of
a new city, but leaving your purse or
backpack dangling off your arm is asking for
trouble. Travel pouches that you wear under
your clothes are a safer choice.
5 2/12/14 !   Be a willing participant in all planned activities so that you
will benefit from the full scope of our tour.
!   Each traveler will be assigned to a group.
!   Each traveler has a designated travel buddy.
Do not go anywhere without your buddy.
!   The group chaperone will be in charge of
making sure everyone is accounted for at
various locations
!   While away you are still representing CCSS. You will need
to adhere to the dress code as you would if you were in
school.
!   If using the pools, wear cover-ups on your way to and
from the pool area.
!   Always have a sweater or light jacket on the bus, and
even something warmer to wear. Often we are gone for
the whole day, so you will not be able to go back to
change.
!   Not every activity will be everyone’s favourite, have a good
attitude at all times. A lot of planning an preparation goes
into making this a diverse, educational and of course FUN
trip.
!   Refer to Handout : Student Expectations and Code of
Conduct/Dress Code
!   Make sure you have your camera,
extra SD cards and batteries.
!   You will be able to choose which
photos you want to share with the
group for the photo book. Keep the
photos that turned out the best,
delete the ones you will never use
!   Keep a journal to help you
remember what you did that day,
fond memories, funny moments, (all
good stuff for the book!)
6 2/12/14 !   Keep your eyes open and camera ready as you head out
into the world. Architecture, colors and mountains all give
us a sense of place.
•  There are two beds in each room, yes you will have to share
!   Wherever you go, be on the lookout for humor which you
can incorporate into your photographs.
•  You are also responsible for any damage, missing items or any
charges that may occur. (phone, television)
•  Students must not switch rooms. If there is a problem with your
room you must let a chaperone know asap.
!   Turn off the flash when there is ample natural light
•  Keep your room neat, organized and respect the space and
privacy of others.
!   Shoot things that remind you of something special
•  Don’t forget you are on a school trip and your behaviour must
reflect this.
!   Learn composition techniques
•  If you would like to use the pool facilities, a chaperone MUST
accompany you.
