An ILEAD Lecture Event AN(OTHER) INCONVENIENT TRUTH: THE COLLISION OF SECURITY AND PRIVACY IN THE DIGITAL AGE In the revolutionary digital age in which we live, computers and rapidly expanding internet systems amplify human interaction and experience in amazing ways. While this constant flow of new technology is impressive, even approaching indispensable, it also presents risks. In this special lecture, a private sector computer security researcher, who also teaches at Dartmouth, will explore how these risks have evolved to threaten critical infrastructures and individuals around the world. Palmer is Chief Technology Officer for Security and Privacy for IBM Research where he focuses on special projects relating to security and privacy, unique customer challenges, and national security issues. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Dartmouth College where he teaches Security and Privacy and other courses. Prior to taking on these roles, he led the Security and Privacy departments at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center for several years, where he also founded IBM’s ethical hacking lab. When you exit the elevator, the lecture hall is immediately to your right, on the same side of the corridor as the elevator. Locating Room 100 from the front (facing the Advance Transit stop): There are two entrances on this side of the building. If using the front door on the right: Enter the building and proceed down the hall. Turn left when you reach the end of the corridor and follow the hallway until you reach the stairs, then take a right. The lecture hall is on your left, just before another elevator. If using the front door on the left: The lecture hall is the first room on the left, just after the stairs.
