Перрет Level: Elementary Age: 10-11 Topic: Weather Aim: By the end of the lesson the students will be able to practice ‘weather’ vocabulary and talk about the weather Materials: Worksheets “Weather” from LearnEnglishKids; Flashcards “Weather”; audio with the sounds of rain, storm, snowstorm etc.; cards with the Goal and Objectives of the lesson; ppt presentation with new words Activity I. Leadin Teacher says/does Turns on the audios and asks the students what sounds they hear. Asks if they can guess the topic of the lesson according to the audios, the Goal and Objectives. II. Brain- Asks students to storming recall the words that belong to the topic “Weather”. Students (Ss) do Listen to the sounds of rain, storm, snowstorm etc. and try to guess the topic “Weather”. Speaking skills 5 min Ss draw a mind-map one by one on the board. III. Learning new words Presents some new words with the ppt presentation. Say different words they already know, that belong to this topic. Draw a mind-map on the board together. Repeat the new words after the teacher, trying to remember them. Speaking skills 3 min A game “Find your pair” Gives out the Ss Ss stand up and the flashcards go to find a pair with the new to their flashcard. words (one for a student – a picture or a word) and asks them to make pairs (a word with a picture). Reading Asks Ss to divide into 4-5 small groups to work with the text “Weather forecast in Britain”. VI. Postreading Then do ex. 2 in pairs – discuss where they should put the words from ex. 1 according to the weather in our region. Divide into 4-5 groups, read the text helping each other. Reading skills (scanning reading) 5 min During the reading the teacher walks around the class and helps Ss if it’s necessary. Asks Ss to draw the Weather forecast in Britain on the big maps (one picture for each group) faster than other groups. Then compare them together, correct mistakes together. VII. Asks Ss to think Speaking about the weather in our country (according to ex. 4 in the worksheets) and prepare a short speech about the weather. VIII. Asks Ss to think Roundover the lesson, to up reflect on the new material. Draw the weather forecast together in their groups. Then show their works each other and discuss them, find mistakes (if there are any) and correct them all together. Speaking skills 5 min For this exercise the students need big pictures (maps of Britain), one for each group. Think about the weather in Russia, make some notes in their notebooks and talk to the class their ideas. Speaking skills, writing skills (make notes) 5 min It is possible to write on the board the key-words and phrases to make the task easier (e.g. The weather in my country is…, In winter it is…, In summer it is…) Think over the lesson, reflect on the new material. Speaking skills 3 min Draws the Ss attention to the Goal and Objectives of the lesson, asks to answer if all of them are achieved. Draws conclusion and explains homework. Think about Goal and Objectives of the lesson. They all are supposed to be achieved. As a reflection we may use such a method: ask Ss to close their eyes, then ask to open them only those Ss, who still have some problems with this topic.
