Goals
A top-10 pharmaceutical company needed to launch a virtual investigator meeting
program to train several hundred sites on numerous protocols for a single compound
over a 3 year period. The initiative had two specific priorities. First, the company
desired to expedite the initiation of certain sites and reduce the overall costs
associated with training site personnel. Second, a technology platform to ensure
consistent training across multiple sites as well as provide an audit trail for all
training activities was a necessity.
Solution
As the chosen technology partner to support this initiative, Blue Sky Broadcast
created a clinical study eLearning portal to manage the overall program. Blue Sky’s
eLearning portal provided access to study documents for the trial, on-demand
training modules for both generic and protocol specific training presentations, links to
other resources and web based systems associated with the trial, and a FAQ section.

The eLearning portal also included access to sub portals for each protocol. The sub
portals provided access to register for protocol specific virtual meetings, online
access to assessments and certificates of completion as well as on-demand training
modules for those that could not attend the live virtual meetings.
In addition, Blue Sky Broadcast provided the event management services for each of
the virtual meetings. Services included event moderators, presenter training and
support, dedicated technical support for participants, attendee management and
post meeting reporting / audit trail. Plus, each virtual meeting was edited to remove
unnecessary content and include a Q&A. The final “edited” version of the virtual
meeting was archived in the eLearning portal for on-demand viewing.
Success defined this initiative on multiple levels. Blue Sky’s virtual investigator
meeting program trained over 1,300 site personnel at 100’s of approved trial sites
across the globe. Compared to historical investigator meetings, the virtual
investigator meeting initiative reduced site initiation and start-up time by more than
half and reduced cost by over 75%.
