ANHS supports advocacy for the environment
By Pinky T. Agunod, NFE—Food Processing
“Cleanliness and proper disposal awareness should start within
us.” Mayor Edwina Poblete Mendoza of Naic, Cavite quoted when she
greeted the flock of volunteers from various schools and from DENR
Naic at the Sabrina Resort in Brgy. Labac as the second part of the 2010
International Coastal Clean up took place in their area. Representatives
from LSGH-ANHS consisting of students and teachers were present.
Miss Teresita V. Tan, Miss Roni Abat, Miss Junelyn R. Domingo, Miss
Ana Ria B. Aguilar, and Mrs. Leila P. Cayetano, the Academic Coordinator volunteered for the clean up. Students from the LSGH day high
school, faculty members, and students from SEP also participated.
Sacks of used plastic bags and bottles, candy wrappers, soiled
diapers, old clothes, and even worn out shoes were collected in the
coastal area. Those are the things that are not supposed to be there. After
the clean up, all collected garbage were weighed and data were recorded.
The volunteers shared their experiences and the lessons that they learned
from that activity. We should be one in protecting the environment, and
we can start in our own simple ways.

Rafael S. Donato FSC Center for Performing Arts
ANHS Sportsfest 2010 idinaos
Ni Bently P. Mejia, 5-A at Dante C. Gorembalem, 2-B
basketball, volleyball, badminton, dodge ball, table tennis, at arm wrestling.

ang katagang Filipino Time. Kadalasan itong nasasabi kapag

Jordon Angelo G. Estrada, 3-A

Remembering Neverland
Student-Vendors
Jordon Angelo G. Estrada, 3-A
Lorela V. Talingting, 4-A
When you ask a kid the question, “What would you want
to be when you grow up?” Some would say a doctor, a
lawyer, a policeman or even a teacher. It is as if they were
so sure that their life is going to turn out perfectly like how
they envisioned it. They have this sort of power that nothing will go against their way until they get to that dream.
When I was young and older people asked me or when I wrote on those dream
job questions in autograph books from my classmates in grade school, I would
always write “Archeologist.” I can still remember and feel the burning desire in
my heart to be an archeologist: digging graves and ancient artifacts. But today,
the desire was long buried deep at the back of my mind and heart, like those
ancient tombs. Maybe because I already grew up. I faced different kinds of people and encountered different situations. I met new responsibilities and most of
all, reality knocked on my door and woke me up from my deep slumber of innocence. Now here I am, all grown up and catching myself at times thinking that
with some years of experience, a bit of knowledge and wisdom about the world,
why can’t I decide something for my future? Why is it so hard for me to choose
the career I want to be after I graduate from college or even high school? It is as
if my world has turned upside down, and everything is not in the right place.
Then I realized, that I have forgotten how it feels like to be a kid. I was taken up
by all the grown up responsibilities and dramas. I never even took a chance to
look back on how it feels like to be carefree for once and not to worry about
what other people will say or what the society will think.
I realized that I have let the people around me and even the society I
belong to dictate what my life will be. In our life, it is really hard to look clearly
into our future if we are preoccupied by worldly problems. If we let this mayhem get into our heads, we will be blinded by the things that we are supposed to
do. What we sometimes forget in our life is to have the eyes and heart of a kid.
We forgot how we looked at things when we were young. Because today we do
not appreciate the simple things and we let those things get complicated just so
we can say that we are all grown up and matured. One thing I learned about being with children is that it is okay to be honest unless you are not hurting other
people; never hold back a word or an action when you love someone; and most
of all do not mind when people say that you cannot do it. Turn your back on the
haters and continue on with your business. Because just like a kid, when you
know you want it and when you know it is for you, you will make all the possible actions just to get it. A little piece of advice. When you have a down day or
totally upset, do something wild. Scream, shout, jump up and down on your bed,
watch cartoons, play your favorite game, or read a fairy tale story. There is no
great escape in this chaotic world, but your world, your very own Neverland.
Love Matters
The American Dream
Mariam Camille A. Tambio, 4-A
Pinky T. Agunod, NFE—Food Processing
Love is never fair. We must always pin it on
our heads. We cannot always find someone that
truly loves us as we love them. However, it always
comes to the point that we can never look back on
what we have because it will just tear our hearts all over again. We might
think that we have moved on but no, there is no such thing as moving on
because we do not move on. We just get used to the pain. This is the
hardest part because we do not know where we should place ourselves. It
is hard to pretend that everything is all right but it is definitely not!
Sometimes we just find ourselves miserable, but it is not because
of love. It is how we handle ourselves when we are in-love. All these
actions are present every time we fall for a person. We really do not
know if it is coincidence that we fall for a person, but that person just
breaks our heart into tiny pieces which brings us to heartache.
How many heartaches should we have in order for us to find our
true love? Is heartache the code for us to reveal the true meaning of love?
Or is this the way God wants us to realize that love should be sacred?
For women, love is essential to their lives; love not only for their
opposite sex but also for their favorite things in life. What do we really
want for love? If I were to be asked, I would answer love me for what I
am, never break my heart into tiny pieces, and respect me. These words
are the most important for us women. Some people I asked said that, “I
do not want to fall in love this way again because it really hurts me.” The
most effective thought that we do is to take things one step at a time because there is no need to rush. Love yourself first in order for you to be
loved. Never expect something in return. Do not give all your love.
Leave even just a little for yourself so that if a person leaves you, your
life will not be miserable.
Green card, the big apple, Empire State Building,
Statue of Liberty, Barack Obama, Washington D.C.,
Hollywood, Oprah, snow…. Greener pasture. Not
just us Filipinos but many people from other countries want to go there, to America to find a job that
will eventually change their lives and earn a few dollars to help their own
families. America is best described as the place where dreams come true
but honestly it is a struggle to even surpass all the challenges and tests
before one can finally land his/her feet on that country.
Getting an American visa alone will eat up your time, money,
energy, and sometimes your self confidence and sanity. You will be
asked tons of questions. But the moment you get there, it is a different
feeling, the excitement in every step that you take. You can feel independence. You have to be on your own. You have to sacrifice and leave
behind the things that you love and the things that you are used to. You
will meet a lot of people, new friends that you will learn to trust. You
will have a new job, a new boss, and a very unfamiliar atmosphere.
There will be nights that you will feel so alone and it will frighten you,
but you have to be strong and faithful. And you also have to remind
yourself that this is your dream. You worked hard for it and you will
never let it slip away just because of loneliness.
A friend once told me that “You have to climb up the highest
peak, cross the ravaging rivers or face the thing that you fear the most to
be able to taste success.” She had done it all. Now, she is living the
American dream. But she is sad because life over there is a lot harder
than she thought. After almost a year she is still learning to adjust and
deal with the people she is living with. But I guess it is a good thing that
Filipinos no matter where we go, no matter how far we need to work; we
sacrifice for the people we love. It is just sad that nowadays, people have
to go out of the country to look for a better job and better opportunity.
The future of our country is in a blur just like a dried up river, lifeless,
and all cracked up. Maybe there is still a chance for our country. We
should not lose our hope, not yet.
Working abroad is not our last card on the table.

Isang huwaran
Na ang nais lamang
Ay katuparan sa kaniyang lupang sinilangan
Panibugho ay lumalim
Sa mga balawis na kumain
Ng pangarap at pag-asa sa ating sambayanan
Dugo ay inalay para sa bayan
Sayang naman ang kaniyang ipinaglaban
Dugo ay bumaha at naging pataba
Bulok na bunga
Tumulo ang luha.
-Kabanata 25 (Noli Me Tangere)
Guro, titser, sir, o ma’am
Ano man ang itawag natin sa kanila,
Ay mababakas pa rin ang hirap
Ng buhay sa kanilang mukha.
Sila’y mistulang maestro
Pagkatao’y inialay
Sa bayang kanlungan ng karalitaan.
Sa lihim na angkin nito,
huhubugin ang tunay na ikaw
Bagong kaalaman, iyong matatanaw.
Kaya kaibigan, huwag mong sasayangin,
Dahil hangad mong kinabukasan maging mainam
Upang ika’y aking tulungan at sagipin
Huwag masayang lahat ng hirap mo at tiisin
Sa halip ikaw ay aking palalakasin.
Basta’t ipangako mo sa akin
Pag-aaral mo’y iyong tatapusin
Sa buhay mo gawing adhikain
Walang hirap na di malalagpasan, pasanin
Makamit kayaman sa buhay sinupin pagyamanin.

Mahalagang ito’y laging nandiyan tuwina.
Dito’y talagang ating malalaman;
Kung paano magkwenta at magbilang;
Mga numero ay laging nandiyan
Sa paligid natin nagmamasid, nag-aabang
Na ating bilangin at bigyan pansin.
Dito rin ay ating matutunan
Maghanap ng solusyon at mga kasagutan;
Sa mga problema at pangangailangan;

Soldier in Every Teacher
Do You Haiku?
Jordon Angelo G. Estrada, 3-A
Like a soldier with rusted armor
Poured the sand out of the glass till no more
Decaying sword, shield and shoe
In their image not even a hue
They cry a loud YAWRP! In the battle field of ignorance
In enemies growl they never yield, not once.
Kings and Queens on their flight
Not even a sight on their plight.
Shed scarlet sweat and blood of pond
For the lass and lad of the land
Hooray! They yelled for the bravery, might and victory
No slight clue of the real story.
In a million of crowd there I stood
Watching them march with pride as hard as they could
A thudding beat of kindness and love,
I strive for excellence to fly like a dove
Clap, cheer and confetti is a rose
Rightfully fit for the noblest human soul
But can be no greater than a fowl
Learn from them lass and lad, no more dumb gaze or foul.
Glittering Stars
Sea is calm tonight,
Stars shining through the water,
Gleaming to my face.

This is not a story about how Ma. Venus Raj bagged a title in the recently concluded Miss
Universe beauty pageant but on the major leap of Lasallian existence in the Philippines 100 years
ago. There were certainly not quite a few but a lot of stories and experiences to unfold how it all
began not just by St. John Baptist de La Salle but of all the brothers who never failed to give life
and to continue his mission. Now, it is undeniably remarkable how La Salle had committed to excellence at par with other schools. Time really flies when we’re having fun. Gone are the days Lasallians are called “Lasallistas” “… because we are aiming for the quality!”, as Mr. Dayrit, the current Principal of the Adult Night High School put it during this year’s Non-Formal Education Orientation. Now, I believe La Salle had gone a long way, farther than the suburbs of the Metro, looking for people craving for knowledge and virtue, hence, didn’t have the monetary capacity to sustain a good education. Thus, I believe that the greatest legacy of the patron saint of all the Christian
teachers was the one where I am right now, the Non-Formal Education. St. La Salle should be so
proud that his teachings are still igniting in the hearts of every Lasallian. When will this passion
stop? I hope that it never runs out of fire and may they continue giving hope to those who are seeking for a brighter future.
“Transact business in English.” This is what we usually read upon entering the ANHS Registrar. Perhaps one distinct and again, major characteristic one Lasallian can have is the English
prowess. Looking back a year ago, when I myself had been a student of Contact Center Service in
the same school, we were trained not only to become call center wannabes but also to become masters of our craft, confident, and competitive.
A lot of business processing and outsourcing sites or what we simply call the BPOs had
been everywhere in our country. Why not? Philippines was considered the third largest English
speaking nation in the world. Truly, Filipinos are still not left behind as far as English communication is concern. Truly, La Salle is the home of good conversationalists. Again, this is where we
hailed for sometime and became our training ground for our English competency. Discipline and
practice matter. Fluency of the language cannot be learned overnight. La Salle is one with our Filipino fellowmen in building a nation full of hope equipped with the proper English language skills.
When everything goes down, there is no other way to go but up. Isn’t it uplifting when you’re confident to face the world. Simply because you know the English language? It may not be the solution, but it can be the first step. Think about it, keep the faith. Truly, Filipinos are world-class!

I am stoned in a dark corner
I let midnight wrap my body
Invisible to the shindig
My colleagues make themselves merry.
Then, I am lost and out of place
She’s now a successful doctor.
He’s now a rich entrepreneur.
They’re my friends, those were the days.
She was my girl, my interest.
Loved and even shared tasks with jest.
My best friend, rubbed elbows with him.
Mirthful and did art of stalking.
“Where am I?”, stoned but whispered I.
Baila of success, mine have less.
When, oh when? Depression again.
When? Insecurities again.
My reflection from the mirror
Oh! An agony of horror.
A dreadful screwed path to my goals.
A curse that even Death neglect.
You
Pinky T. Agunod, NFE-Food Processing
I never thought I would be happy again
After years and years of pain
All those struggles and suffering
I never thought there would be an ending
Then you came
And brought back the colors
On my gloomy days
You gave a new light
For my impaired sight
You offered me a new beat
For my soundless world
You wrote some new lines
For my ruined script
You helped me open a new door
In times I feel so trapped
I know for sure that you will be there
No matter what and come my way
So I want to thank you
For being my angel
And for saving me
When I felt it was the end.

SECOND TRIMESTER 2010-2011 8
Fifth Year students undergo training
By Bently Mejia, 5-A
The fifth year students of La Salle Green Hills-Adult Night High
School went to Blu Rose Farm in Lipa, Batangas last December 18 and
19, 2010 to accomplish the Bivouac training as part of the Citizen’s
Army Training (CAT). It was led by Mr. Alfredo C. Mendoza (CAT
Teacher), Second Lieutenant Mr. Mark F. Eguia Philippine Navy Marines and the advisers Mr. Joseph G. Laviña of 5-A and Miss Junelyn R.
Domingo of 5-B to guide the students in all their activities.
The training and activities were provided by the Team Center for
Outdoor Recreation and Education (Core) spearheaded by Mr. Jojo Diño,
Mr. Bernie Robles, Mr. Mark F. Molina, Mr. Rogie Sapio, and Mr. Dong
Tonilon (Director). The activities started at 10:00 am after a short reminder about the rules and regulations in the farm. Mr. Mendoza divided
the students into five groups Mr. Diño gave instructions for different activities. The first activity was Orienteering which aims to locate the station by using a compass and Blind Folded Puzzle Making. After lunch,
he gave the second activity, the Wall Climbing and Confidence Line.
Each team had to present a cheer with the group name. Meanwhile during the activities the bad weather would not stop and it started to rain so
that participants were not able to continue the activity. The ANHS Principal Mr. Rheal D. Dayrit visited during the actual training to give support
to the students. Mr. Mendoza decided to get back to the camp until the
rain stopped. Mr. Diño presented the third activity. The goal was to fill
water in the empty drum with many holes around. After bath, he gave the
fourth activity, the Observation of Sensitivity Test (OST). After dinner
the fifth activity was held, the Skit Presentation and War Game that
ended at 12:30 am. In the morning Mr. Diño gave the sixth and the last
activity, the Rappelling and Maze.
At 2:00 in the afternoon, the bivouac ended by giving awards to
groups and students who won in the activities and appreciation for the
unique experience to test their strengths and weaknesses. Truly, the activity was a happy, harmonious, and tranquil training for the students.
C. Cuyos, Angelica Y. Borlado at Welvin R. Binay.
Life."
Have fun while reading
By Lorela V. Talingting, 4-A
How important is reading in our lives? Do we spend some time
to read and to understand what we are reading? Can reading be a habit?
Last September 2010 our high school library launched a twice a
month Fun Reading Activity contest. All students from both the Formal
and Non-Formal Education were encouraged to join. The Library,
headed by Mrs. Shirley Santones, spearheaded the activity in order to
encourage students to read, learn, and the same time have fun while
learning. It is one step towards inculcating in the students the habit of
reading and seeing the relevance of this skill in their lives.
The Fun Reading Activity is composed of a “Crossword Puzzle”
wherein each puzzle is based on a novel which can be found in our library. The second one is “Guess the Title of the Story Contest” where in
a one to two paragraph story will be given and participants must guess
the title of the given story. The third one is making inferences wherein a
short story will be given. The contestant must choose the right ending
for each sentence based on the story given.
Copies of the different activities are available at the library’s circulation desk. There should only be one entry per student. The first entry
which will be drawn with the complete and correct answers shall be announced as the winner. Name of winners will be posted in the weekly
bulletin and will be given a prize.
Donate blood; save life
By Pinky T. Agunod, NFE-Food Processing
“Did you know that when you donate your blood you’ll
be able to help four people?” Mrs. Leila P. Cayetano quoted as the
bloodletting drive kicked off last September 9, 2010. The first part of the
program was an orientation and seminar about blood donation a week
before the actual blood drive. The highlight of the discussion was on the
dos and don’ts before and after donating blood.
Students from both the Formal and Non-Formal volunteered to
join and help out. Also present were some of the faculty members. The
orientation was held at the Lecture Hall. The actual bloodletting followed
the week after. Representatives from the Philippine National Red Cross
came in to begin the Blood drive. One day was not enough to finish the
Bloodletting because of the great number of donors. The activity was
continued the following week. This noble endeavor was spearheaded by
the Social Concerns Program led Miss Ana Ria B. Aguilar.
