Product Description
Self-drilling fasteners eliminate separate drilling and tapping
operations for faster, more economical installations. Tanner
Bolt & Nut Corp. offers the most complete selection of selfdrilling fasteners made in the United States by Parker-Kalon
and Elco®.
It is important that the correct point length is selected with selfdrilling screws, because drilling and tapping operations should
not occur simultaneously. For optimum performance, the drilling
operation must be completed and the lip of the drill point must
have fully penetrated the material before thread engagement
begins – or the result is a stall-out or point burn-up.

Hex Washer Head
Specially designed drill points handle the toughest applications.
This line of heavy-duty drill screws is designed for steel
applications up to 1/2" thick. Ideal for attaching metal deck,
clips, linear panels and accessories to structural steel or bar
joist. Longer length fasteners can be used to retrofit clip
and sheet applications. Available zinc plated, Stalgard® or
Climaseal® finish. Also available with bonded neoprene
washers for weather-tight sealing applications.
Installation for #4 & #5 Point Screws
A standard screwdriver with a depth sensitive nosepiece
should be used to install heavy-duty self-drilling screws. For
optimal fastener performance, the screw gun should be a
minimum of 4 amps and have a RPM range of 0-2000.
(Maximum of 1800 RPM is recommended for #5 point screws.)
• Adjust the screw gun nosepiece to properly seat the fastener.
• New magnetic sockets must be correctly set before use.
• Remove chip build-up as needed.
• The fastener is fully seated when the head is flush with the
work surface.
• Overdriving may result in torsional failure of the fastener or
stripout of the substrate.
• The fastener must penetrate beyond the metal structure a
minimum of 3 pitches of thread.

Self-Drilling Screws 410 Stainless Steel- ClimaShield
™
Product Description
Tanner stocks a full line of 410 stainless steel self-drilling
screws in hex washer, pan and flat phillips head. Available
with ClimaShield™ corrosion protection or a bright hardened
finish, 410 stainless steel self-drilling screws should be used
when strength and corrosion resistance are factors.
Type 410 martensitic stainless steel permits strength properties
roughly equivalent to those of medium carbon steel SAE
Grade 5 fasteners. These properties are attained as this grade
of stainless steel has a carbon content that allows a sharp
increase in tensile strength after heat treating and also
reduces corrosion resistance. 410 Stainless Steel is magnetic,
contains no nickel, loses toughness in very cold temperatures,
and may have a tendency to become brittle. Its corrosion
resistance is not as good as austenitic ("18-8 "or 300 series)
stainless steel and are therefore recommended in mild
atmospheres.
Type 410 stainless steel should be considered a prime
candidate for use in any application where zinc plated case
hardened steel fasteners are deficient in providing the needed corrosion protection. They are not recommended for
fastening dissimilar metals such as aluminum to steel or
stainless steel.
Mechanical Properties:
Tensile – 180,000 psi heat-treated
Yield – 150,000 psi heat-treated
Hardness – 40 Rockwell C min.

ITW Buildex 410 Stainless Steel TEKS® are designed for applications
requiring extra corrosion resistance through the added protection
of ClimaShield™. They are uniquely identified by the Buildex "B4"
marking on the head. TEKS® self-drilling screws are engineered for
fast drilling and smooth tapping without extra effort. Available with
bonded neoprene washers for weather-tight sealing applications.

Installation
• A standard screw gun with a depth sensitive nosepiece
should be used to install self-drilling screws. For optimal
fastener performance, the screw gun should be a minimum
of 4 amps and have an RPM range of 0-2000.
• Adjust the screw gun nosepiece to properly seat the fastener.
• New magnetic sockets must be correctly set before use.
• Remove chip build-up as needed.
• The fastener is fully seated when the head is flush with the
work surface.
• Overdriving may result in torsional failure of the fastener or
strip out of the substrate.
• The fastener must penetrate beyond the metal structure a
minimum of 3 pitches of thread.

Product Description
Elco® 18.8 stainless steel self-drilling screws are used for fastening to aluminum when corrosion is a primary concern.
Available in hex washer head from #10 to 1/4", these screws
are manufactured from 302 stainless steel and are finished
in a silver top coat. Not designed to drill steel.

steel framing. Tanner self-drilling screws have flutes that start
fast and remove chips quickly. Sharply formed flutes allow
immediate drilling action without walking. Penetration starts
with a quick curl of material and continues with excellent chip
relief for maximum drilling depth. The designed threads also
provide low driving torque for operator ease.
