ORGANIZATION
My essay has a clear introduction that catches the audience’s
attention

My reasons are connected and organized in a logical way.
My essay has a positive conclusion that urges the audience to
agree, support, or take action on my topic.
PERSUASIVE STRATEGIES
Ethos: My essay builds trust and credibility (such as: Expert
on the topic, As a student, daughter/son, Canadian, etc.)
Pathos: My essay appeals to the audience’s emotions; it
makes them feel a certain emotion (such as: Creating anger,
happiness, sadness, pity)
Logos: My essay uses logic, numbers, and facts to support
my argument (such as: 31% of Canadian kids are overweight,
Students have 5 hours of in-class time a day, etc.)
Rebuttal: My essay anticipates an argument against my
position and explains how my position is the better choice.
STYLE & CONVENTIONS
My piece has all complete sentences that begin with capital
letters and end with punctuation. Any proper nouns or the
word “I” begins with a capital letter.
I reread more than one time and revised my writing.
My persuasive essay has been edited for spelling.
My persuasive essay has correct verb tense in each sentence.
