Thank you ACU!
The MCMA is so grateful
for the financial support
from the Assiniboine Credit
Union. This member driven
organization welcomes the
opportunity to provide
sponsorship to
organizations that enrich
the community. As a nonprofit registered charity, the
MCMA fits ACU’s criteria
for this sponsorship and is
so thankful for their
support.
“We believe that a vibrant
arts and cultural sector is
essential to a thriving
community,” says Nan
Colledge, Assiniboine
Credit Union’s Community
Program Manager. “We
commend MCMA for
making music accessible to
all and we are delighted to
support this initiative.”
Thank you ACU for all of
your support!
December 2012
Delightful in December
It's official, winter is here! We have broken out our toques, toboggans,
firewood and hot chocolate. December is a time for family, friends, music
and traditions. We love all of the events that the holiday season brings to the MCMA,
especially hosting holiday themed recitals! Our Noon Hour Series will wrap up on
December 14 at 12 pm. Join sopranos Ashley Boychuk & Dawn Bruch with pianist Alina
Havrylyuk in A Winter’s Song. This recital has a taste of everything: opera, solo piano, as
well as traditional and contemporary holiday favorites. Our second event features musicians
we love to show off - our students! The MCMA Student Holiday Recital will be on
December 16, 2013. There are three recitals: one at 1:30, another at 2:15 and the last at
3:00 pm. Please sign up for this opportunity at the Student Services Desk and bring your fan
club!
Just a reminder: The last day of classes at the MCMA is December 22, 2012 and the
first day back is January 7, 2013. Have a wonderful holiday!
Check Out Our Winter Programs in 2013!
We have amped up our winter programs starting in January 2013 and are we
excited!
Ever dreamed of having the title "Maestro"? Well you can be a few steps
closer if you take Conducting with Alexander Mickelthwate. He will
focus on score study, rehearsal technique and movement. This is a unique
opportunity not to be missed!
The MCMA is expanding on our programs for young people. We have partnered with the
Windsor Community Club to offer a selection of programs for young people on
Wednesday afternoons and evenings. Mini Mozarts for 3 to 4 year olds, our new class
Sing & Play and Young Voices will be offered at Windsor as well as at our facility at 211
Bannatyne for your convenience.
Our adult programs are sure to be a hit! We have created a Clearly Classics Choir so
you can groove and shimmy to classics from the 40's, 50's and 60's. If Yoga is more your
thing, we have a new class called Finding Your Voice Through Yoga. This class
incorporates Yoga Flow movements, breathing techniques and energy fusion. For those of
you who have always wanted to give harmonica a try, check out the MCMA Introducing
Harmonica class!
Of course, in order to achieve those virtuosic dreams, you need to know how to practice.
The MCMA is offering a workshop on March 9: How to Practice Effectively.
Find descriptions of these new courses (and our regularly offered ones) on our website at
www.mcma.ca! For more information, give us a call at (204) 943-6090.
Congratulations Linda and Maia!
Keeping you up to
date on MCMA news
and programs!
We certainly are lucky to have some very talented students at the Conservatory!
We are so proud of Maia Idzikowski, a piano student at the Conservatory studying in the
piano studio of Linda Fox, who won the Royal Conservatory of Canada Gold Medal for
Grade Six Piano. We are so proud at the MCMA to have such high quality faculty members
such as Linda to motivate and prepare dedicated young musicians like Maia. Keep up the
good work. Bravi!
Into the Music Pop-Up Store Is Coming to the MCMA!
PAGE 2
Into The Music is happy to announce our latest POP-UP store location, within the cozy confines of
the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts. A POP-UP store is our response to the enormous
opportunity afforded to us in purchasing the music library’s of both the CBC in Winnipeg and
Regina. Crown jewels that they are, our issue is the collections are far too large for the 3000 foot
confines of our McDermot Street location (already Winnipeg’s largest independent store by a good
margin). This perfect partnership with the MCMA allows ITM to set up a focused retail location
within the MCMA based entirely on Classical Music. Look forward to upwards of 5000 CDs, and a
few hundred choice Vinyl selections, covering the complete spectrum of Orchestral, Chamber &
Choral musics: from ancient music to 20th/21st Century works. All of this will be on Sale for
the low price of $5 per CD, positively a huge savings over the cost of a new disc. Classical Vinyl
starts at $4/LP with a focus on 20th Century and New Music Festival composers and Golden era
violin and cello soloists (a personal bias). Sales taxes apply. Remember to bring cash, as we are
not able to provide Credit Card/Debit Card services at this location.
POP-UP stores are temporary in nature. Tell your friends and classical music lovers everywhere as it won’t last but a few
weeks. This adventure begins just after the holiday season on Tuesday January 8th and concludes Friday January
25th. Store hours Monday to Saturday are 10:00 to 5PM, except Friday, open until 4PM.
Into The Music is Winnipeg’s favorite independent music retailer in all genres of music and is definitely the largest seller of
Quality used classical CDs & Vinyl in Winnipeg. Located in the Exchange District at 245 McDermot Ave at the corner of
King St, our main store location is a short walk from the front doors of the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts. All
your purchases are guaranteed against defect and we will happily refund if this is the case. Please call us at 204-287-8279
for all your New & Used CD & Vinyl needs.
THE WOMEN’S MUSICAL CLUB OF WINNIPEG

To this end, in addition to its regular concert series, the WMC has offered an annual
