Welcome to Fall 2015 M105 (CRN 20460)
Our shell Beoga.net will be available to you on Thursday, 9/17. The cost is $65 for the fall term and the content is
available for 6 months following the term. To purchase the material:
1. Go to www.beoga.net and click on the "Create new account" button.
2. Fill out all the required information and click "Create my new account".
3. Go check your email.
You should see a message with the subject, "beoga.net: account
confirmation". Open that email and click on the link to confirm your new account. You will then be
sent to a web site with a list of courses.
4. Select the course titled, “Math 105 Algebra Fall 2015 - Butterworth”. WARNING: BE SURE TO
SELECT THE CORRECT COURSE!
5. Pay for the subscription to the beoga.net online textbook.
6. Go back to www.beoga.net and log in to the course using the username & password you selected in step 2
above.
7. Once you are logged in go to the ANNOUNCEMENTS link and read my first post.
If you have problems with the login process please send an email to support@beoga.net for help.
Although you do not have to officially begin the session until September 22, I encourage you to begin looking at
the material as soon as possible.
ATTENDANCE WARNING:
Attendance to the first class in Rm 5601 on Tuesday, 9/22 is mandatory. Signing up for Beoga is not sufficient to indicate
attendance since this is an in-person course. Any student that does not attend by Thursday, 9/24 will be dropped unless the
student sends email notification of his/her intent to continue. The email should be sent to butterworthyvette@fhda.edu with
the subject line “Intend to Continue CRN#20460” and in the body “Your Name & Student ID”. Please contact the instructor
or the Admissions and Records Office if you can't continue. Students on the final grade roster who have not dropped, and
who do not show up for the final exam, automatically receive an F in the course – it is your responsibility to drop yourself
from the class if you don’t wish to continue. The refund deadline is Sun, 10/4. The NRS deadline is Sun., 10/4. The W
deadline is Fri., 11/13.
Please be aware that I have a Skype account (profbutterworth) and can work with my students very much like
they are sitting beside me in my office. I share my computer screen and can write problems out, screen capture
them and email them. Skype is available by appointment. I will also be available from 12 to 1 on Tuesdays and
Thursdays in the PSME.
FORUMS are a great way to interact with others and learn. The more questions you ask and answer in the
FORUMS the more you will learn. I will monitor the Forums and chime in when necessary, but it is part of the
learning experience for you to participate and learn from questions that others have and by answering questions
that are posted. When not in class you should always start by asking questions in Forums and not by directing
questions to me, otherwise you are depriving everyone of the information that you will acquire (think of it as our
on-line classroom). You will be required to make a reply to the “Non-Content Questions’ Forum” Introduction
prompt during the first week and there will be 5 required very specific posts throughout the quarter which I will
model in class. Here is how to subscribe to the Forums once you are in Beoga:
1.
2.
3.
