SCHOOL OF SOCIAL ECOLOGY 2011‐2012 TRANSFER STUDENT ORIENTATION Congratulations and welcome to the School of Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine! We are excited that you will be joining us as a student this fall. Orientation is mandatory as we will be covering important information to help you be a successful student. You will also have an opportunity to register for fall classes. It is helpful to bring transcripts (unofficial is fine) so we can help you decide what classes you need to take. Please note that attending an orientation session is mandatory to enroll in classes for Fall Quarter 2011. GENERAL INFORMATION Submit final transcripts to the UC Irvine Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools as soon as possible. IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) must be completed before classes begin in the fall. You are subject to UCI’s General Education requirements if IGETC is not complete prior to matriculation to UCI. It is extremely important to be ON TIME to your orientation session as space is limited and rescheduling may not be possible. All sessions will be held in Social & Behavioral Sciences Gateway (SBSG) 1517. Transfer Success is a program sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students and is focused on exposing transfer students to important campus resources and the UC Irvine student experience. It does not include academic advising, which is why you’ll notice that we have an orientation session immediately following Transfer Success during Sessions 5 and 6. To register for Transfer Success, visit http://www.dos.uci.edu/orientation/transfersuccess.php. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How and when should I sign‐up for my orientation session? To register for orientation and view which sessions are still open, we encourage you to regularly visit this site: http://students.soceco.uci.edu/pages/transfer‐student‐orientation. Sign‐ups begin at noon on Monday, May 23, 2011. We recommend that you sign‐up for orientation as soon as possible as spaces will fill up quickly. What should I do before attending orientation? And what should I bring with me to orientation? *Activate your UCInetID prior to attending an orientation session. You can activate it online at http://activate.uci.edu/activate/menu.html. This is very important! Your UCInetID needs to be activated in order to register for classes. You may have noticed that we have placed a hold on your records. The hold is to ensure you do not register for classes before you receive academic advising during transfer orientation. Items to bring with you: *Money: You will need to purchase all‐day parking permit for $8 at the kiosk in the Social Science Parking Structure (SPSS) off Campus Dr. and Stanford. *College transcripts: Transfer students are encouraged to bring a copy of their transcript(s) (unofficial is fine). *Pen and paper: To take copious notes of course! What should I do prior to start of Fall 2011? 1. Get your picture taken for your UCI student ID at UCItems (located in the Student Center). 2. Search the online UCI General Catalogue (http://www.editor.uci.edu/catalogue/) for helpful information particularly the section on “Information for Admitted Students.” 3. Purchase your parking permit if you will be commuting to UCI and parking on campus. You can purchase your permit online at http://www.parking.uci.edu. 4. Take a campus tour or self‐guided tour to familiarize yourself with building/room locations. Again, congratulations on your admission to UC Irvine. You have made an excellent choice! We look forward to meeting you. Office of Student Services 102 Social Ecology I School of Social Ecology University of California, Irvine (949) 824‐6861 seadmit@uci.edu
