MAKING A GREAT BOOK EVEN BETTER
With its precise, conversational style—along with a broad range of coverage, helpful pedagogy, and superb problem
sets—Jon Rogawski’s Calculus quickly found a place in the AP* classroom. Now Rogawski's Calculus returns—not only
available of the AP text, a traditional version (Late Transcendentals or LT) and an Early Transcendentals (ET) version.
These versions are available to accommodate teachers’ preferences.
AP-SPECIFIC
Rogawski's Calculus for AP*
graphics, intuitive explanations, and extraordinary problem sets all work together to help students develop
mathematical skills while seeing the importance of calculus to our lives and their future studies.
NEW CO-AUTHOR
The AP versions of Rogawski’s texts feature a new coauthor: Ray Cannon, former AP Calculus Chief Reader for the
Response Questions (FRQ’s), giving students the opportunity to work the same kinds of problems they will see on the
AP exam.
WHAT’S NEW...
• Enhanced Exercise Sets—with approximately 25% new and revised problems. Exercise sets have undergone
•
. To show how calculus directly relates the real world, the second
engineering, the life sciences, physical sciences, business, economics, medicine, and the social sciences.
WHAT’S NEW Continued...
• Content Changes. Rogawski’s second edition includes several content changes in response to feedback from
users and reviewers. The key changes include:
• Chapter 2: Limits - Coverage of limits at infinity moved from Chapter 4 to appear in Chapter 2: Limits so
that all types of Limits are introduced together.
• Chapter 3: Differentiation - Coverage of differentials has been enhanced.
• Chapter 4: Applications of the Derivative - Reorganized to present L'Hôpital’s Rule earlier to facilitate
graph sketching.
• Section on numerical integration moved to the end of the Techniques of Integration chapter so that all
the techniques of integration appear first.
• New section, Probability and Integration, now in the chapter on Techniques of Integration to allow
students to explore a new application of integration to business, physics and other sciences.
• Multivariable chapters – Currently recognized as especially strong material in Rogawski’s Calculus, the
multivariable chapters have been refined in minor ways for even greater clarity, accuracy, and precision.
• Figures throughout have been revised where needed to reflect even greater consistency with the text
through graphics and labeling.
Rogawski’s Key Features...
Assumptions Matter uses short explanations and well-chosen counterexamples to help students appreciate
why hypotheses are needed in theorems.
Conceptual Insights encourage the student to develop a conceptual understanding of calculus by explaining
important ideas clearly but informally.
Graphical Insights enhance the students' visual understanding by making the crucial connection between
graphical properties and the underlying concept.
Reminders are margin notes that link back to important concepts discussed earlier in the text.
Section Summaries summarize a section’s key points in a concise and useful way.
Section Exercise Sets offer a comprehensive set of exercises closely coordinated with the text. These
exercises vary in levels of difficulty from routine, to moderate, to more challenging. Also included are
questions appropriate for written response or use of technology.
Historical Perspectives are brief vignettes that place key conceptual discoveries and advancements in their
historical settings.
End of Chapter Review Exercises offer a comprehensive set of exercises closely coordinated with the chapter
material.
