Overview of the Dance Competition
The Dance programme of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission includes: training, competition,
preservation of our ethnic culture and showcasing the creative talents of Jamaicans. The programme does
not focus on “how” to dance; however, it highlights the role dance plays in our lives.
With the collaborative effort and commitment of the staff in the dance unit, the JCDC parish staff, dance
teachers, trainers, performers, and sponsors islandwide, activities to strengthen this art form continues to
be implemented and facilitated.
This catalogue provides information on the number of entries from Zone to National Finals, information
on awards received from the parish to the national finals, medal tally as well as statistical information for
the period 2008- 2011 especially for 2011 the year in focus.
