The Communities Groton and Dunstable are located approximately 35 miles northwest of Boston. Both towns are designated as residential suburban communities. As primarily middle to upper middle class communities, town residents are mainly employed in business and professional occupations. The current population of Groton is approximately 10,873; the population of Dunstable is approximately 3,323. The Regional High School Groton-Dunstable Regional High School is a four-year, public, co-educational, comprehensive school with an enrollment of 879 students. The grade point average is calculated on a 110 point scale. Honors classes receive an extra 5 quality points and AP classes receive an extra 10 quality points. The objective is to engage the student in a personalized learning experience that requires the study of a subject or project not available within the established G-D curriculum. Seniors may choose from the following options to fulfill their Independent Experience credit: Independent Study in an Advanced Placement course not offered at G-D, Senior Project, Virtual High School, Dual Enrollment, Senior Internship, or Human Development II. Senior Internship Program Approximately 40% of the senior class will take advantage of G-D’s Senior Internship, which typically takes place during the final quarter of the senior year. This long-standing and respected program allows eligible students opportunities to pursue alternative educational experiences within the surrounding communities while exploring potential future careers. The program requires students to adhere to rigorous expectations and standards, including producing journals, holding interviews, organizing meetings and completing an extensive formal writing component. Each student’s Internship culminates in a comprehensive multimedia presentation. Recent internship partners include: The National Zoo, Sea World, The Boston Globe, The Lowell Spinners, The Massachusetts State House, along with various engineering firms, advertising agencies, local schools and area businesses.
