Senior Independent Experience
An Independent Experience is required of all seniors at
G-D. The objective is to engage the student in a
personalized learning experience that requires the
study of a subject or project not available within the
established G-D curriculum. Seniors may choose from
the following options to fulfill their Independent
Experience credit: Independent Study in an Advanced
Placement course not offered at G-D, Senior Project,
Virtual High School, Dual Enrollment, Senior Internship,
or Human Development II.
Senior Internship Program
Approximately 40% of the senior class will take
advantage of G-D’s Senior Internship, which typically
takes place during the final quarter of the senior year.
This long-standing and respected program allows eligible
students opportunities to pursue alternative educational
experiences within the surrounding communities while
exploring potential future careers. The program requires
students to adhere to rigorous expectations and
standards, including producing journals, holding
interviews, organizing meetings and completing an
extensive formal writing component. Each student’s
Internship culminates in a comprehensive multimedia
presentation. Recent internship partners include: The
National Zoo, Sea World, The Boston Globe, The Lowell
Spinners, The Massachusetts State House, along with
various engineering firms, advertising agencies, local
schools and area businesses.
