*College of Education undecided applicants are required to provide a goal statement discussing in 250-300 words their interest in
urban education and their commitment to working in the service of urban schools.
*Elementary Education candidates should provide a statement discussing in what ways they believe they possess the critical
characteristics of an Urban Elementary Teacher. Admission to the Elementary Education candidacy has ad ditional requirements of:
*Two letters of recommendation (one from supervisor of the service learning/observation hours and one from a professor in a c ollegelevel class).
*Area of specialization form.
*Passing score on the Test of Academic Performance or an ACT score of 22 or higher with the Writing test.
*50 service learning hours.
*60 hours of specific coursework.
*Personal interview.

* Spring transfer admission requires a completion of minimum of 45 transferable hours, including the language other than English and
three of the seven courses and general education requirements listed in the chart below.
*One transferable course in Foundations of Education
* Courses to be taken at Morton College: ENG 101 and ENG 102, PSY 210 or one transferable course in Child Development for
Elementary Teachers, HIS 105 or HIS 106, and PSY 101.
* Completion of three years of one language other than English in high school or through the second level of one language other than
English in college
*One transferable course in Humanities and Arts: British/American Literature
*One transferable course in Quantitative Reasoning I

*All transfer courses in the program must be completed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.
*All Elementary Education students need to complete a standard teaching concentration (minor - 30 QH or major - 45 QH).
* Students must complete at least 60 QH of general education courses
*One of the science courses, General Biology or Survey of Physical Science, must have a lab
* A Digital Information Literacy class must be taken within the last three years.
*Faculty reviews each student during his or her Professional Sequence to determine continued eligibility in the Elementary Education
program
*Completion of a minimum of 100 clock hours of preclinical experience (practicum) is required prior to student teaching
*Requires student teaching, practicum, and observations
