CENTER INFORMATION
FACILITY VS PROGRAM MEMBER
Throughout this program guide you will find
two kinds of pricing, FACILITY MEMBER (FM)
and PROGRAM MEMBER (PM). A facility
member means that you are an active member
with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. You
will find numerous benefits in becoming a
member, which are listed on page 4. The other
advantage to having a membership is that
you receive FREE or discounted rates on our
sports, aquatics, camps, wellness, events, etc.
A program member means that you are
registered to do a specific program. There is
not an additional fee to be a program member;
however, you will pay a higher program fee
versus becoming a facility member. A program
member will not have full access to the YMCA
facility nor their amenities.
If you are interested in becoming a Facility
Member, please speak to a Member Services
Representative at the front desk.

people feel welcome and valued.

Y AQUATICS / SWIM LESSONS
SWIM LESSONS
Did you know the YMCA has been
teaching children and adults how to swim
and be safe and skilled in the water for over
100 years? YMCA Swim Lessons are divided
into four main categories: Parent/Child,
Preschool, Youth, and Adult/Teen. You also
have the choice of doing private swim lessons
as well. YMCA Core Values (Caring, Honesty,
Respect and Responsibility) are incorporated
into lessons along with personal growth and
water safety.
Y SWIM SCHOOL
Our progressive program is designed for
all, from infant to adult, and every level of
ability. We focus on five components:
personal safety, personal growth, confidence
in the water, stroke development, and aquatic
activity. Each skill level builds to the next,
and participants are allowed to progress at
their own pace, using the fundamental
cornerstone YMCA program.
Pike: This level is for the
beginner swimmer. Children who
are being exposed to water for
the first time or have a concern of getting
their face wet or being submerged are best
placed in this level. In these classes, the
instructor will work with your child to gain
comfort in the water while working on basic
swimming skills.
Eel: In this level, your child must
be comfortable in the water.
They will jump in the water and
have no concern of getting their face wet or
submerging. The instructor will work with your
child to move from a vertical swim position to
a horizontal swim position.
PARENT/CHILD PROGRAM (S.K.I.P.)
(Ages 6-36 mos) Promotes water enrichment
and aquatic readiness. 30 minutes filled with
songs and games; you and your child learn
about personal safety and water adjustment.
Refer to schedule in this section.
Ray: At this level your child is
able to swim independently and
at least 5 yards without any
floatation device. In this level we will work to
improve stroke form and endurance for both
front crawl and backstroke.
BEYOND PARENT & CHILD
(Ages 2½-4yrs) For the child who is not quite
ready to swim independently of a parent but
ready to move up from Parent/Child. This level
combines fun, water adjustment, basic water
skills and core Pike skill development.
Starfish: The most advanced
preschool level, the Starfish, is
for a child who can swim 25 yards
without assistance. Your child will refine their
primary strokes and begin to learn the skills
for more advanced swimming strokes.

as aids to help the children swim safely and
independently. Swimmers are divided into four
skill levels and move up as they progress.
Y AQUATICS / SWIM LESSONS
YOUTH
(Ages 6-12yrs) 40 minutes. This program is
comprised of five main components: personal
growth, personal safety, stroke development,
water sports and games and rescue. Each skill
level builds upon the preceding level, with
seven levels covering all the strokes, diving
fundamentals and safety skills.
Polliwog: This level is for the
beginner swimmer. Children who
are exposed to water for the
first time, or have a concern of getting their
face wet or being submerged are best placed
in this level. The instructor will work with
your child to gain comfort in the water while
working on basic swimming skills.
Guppy: This level is for children
who have no concern of getting
their face wet or being submerged
and can swim 25 yards without assistance.
Your child will refine their primary strokes and
begin to learn the skills for more advanced
swimming strokes.
Minnow: This level is for the
intermediate swimmer. Your child
must be able to swim 50 yards
on front and back without a flotation device
with refined rotary breathing. We will begin to
teach your child the sidestroke, breaststroke,
and elementary backstroke as well as learn
how to swim the dolphin kick.
Fish: In this level, your child
must be able to swim 75 yards
on front and back without a
flotation device with refined rotary breathing
using open turns. Your child will finalize their
competency for sidestroke, breaststroke, and
elementary backstroke as well as learn how to
swim the butterfly.
Waves: This swim class is designed for
children and adults with special disabilities.
This program will also touch on strength and
flexibility. Every participant will receive oneon-one attention with our trained instructors
to enure comfort in the water.
Stroking Onward: This is a pre-swim team
class aimed at working on stroking technique,
endurance and skills. Students will work
on starts and flip turns as well. This is also
a program designed around the future
lifeguard, teaching important lifesaving
techniques in and around water on a more
specific and advanced level. Prior to enrolling,
students need to be able to complete the
Flying Fish level.
LAP SWIM

available. We have available suggested swim
workouts for beginner, intermediate, advance,

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
THANK YOU
Throughout Boone County, countless people know about the Witham Family YMCA.
But there's so much more to our Y than one might think. From exercise to education, from
volleyball to volunteerism, the Y doesn't just strengthen our bodies, it strengthens our
community. The Witham Family Y would like to thank all who have helped so far in 2015 in
striving to reach our goal for our Annual Campaign. With your help, kids and families in our
community will be able to participate in YMCA programs, camps, activities, and membership.
At the YMCA, no child or family is turned away because of an inability to pay. One hundred
percent of each contribution goes toward this cause. To participate in our campaign, simply
stop by Member Services or ask a staff member how to make a difference in the lives of those
around us. Listed below are all of the individuals and companies who have donated to our
2015 Annual Campaign as of October 8, 2015. Thank you to all who have helped!

pool with easy ramp access, separate from
the YMCA lap pool. Because of water's
unweighting quality, aquatic therapy is ideal
for exercising with less stress on joints. It is
especially beneficial for patients recovering
from joint replacement surgery or fractures,
for patients with arthritis, and for patients
with back pain. Aquatic therapy may be
recommended by your therapist as a part of
the physical therapy or occupational therapy
plan of care.

PHYSICAL AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Physical and occupational therapists create
individualized rehabilitation treatment

pain. Therapy can be used for a variety of
conditions and injuries in adults and children.
Most insurance carriers require referral by a
physician for therapy.
