In 2011, 1 in 10 Americans owned a storage unit; this reflects a 65% increase in the last 15 years. What is causing this growth? There are a number of contributing factors, some cultural and others entrepreneurial. The reason for the market surge ultimately comes down to
Americans becoming increasingly mobile; combine that with the convenience of self-storage and you have yourself a recipe for success. Once customers have packed up their unit, no one wants to spend an entire weekend unpacking their stuff. These are just a few reasons why Zippy Shell is succeeding despite the ongoing economic downturns our nation is facing.

Whether you hire someone or do it yourself, spend one day - or even a few hours - doing some of these business development efforts. Remember, always exchange business cards when you speak with someone and follow up even if only to say ‘it was nice meeting you’.
Stop by local realty offices and introduce yourself. Bring some cookies and place a stack of your business cards next to them. Encourage realtors to be their client’s ‘neighborhood expert’. Let them offer their clients an exclusive discount. For example, 1 st month free storage for any client referral.
Stop by local apartment building complexes and leave your business cards, and fliers if you have them. People are always moving in and out so there is no reason why they shouldn’t be using Zippy Shell!
Try offering an incentive to the concierge or realtor: for every referral they send you, you send them a $15
Starbucks or gas card. Give them a reason to be a serial referrer.
Once you grow a realtor email list, Heather can include them in her monthly Zip Tips email campaign.

2 nd Step:
Good Afternoon ___,
Thank you for taking the time to share your
Zippy Shell experience with me.
I am happy to hear you had a great experience. When you have a minute please leave a review on our Google+ or
Yelp page.
To show you how much we appreciate your review, we would like to offer you
20% off your next Zippy Shell service.
Thank you!
Unavoidably, there will be customers that have complaints. I have found that partial refunds, along with an apology, go a long way. In some cases even yielding positive reviews. That is why both steps, instead of just one, are essential. If someone had a bad experience, correct it.
Chances are if you’re sincere, they will recognize that and forgive Zippy Shell.
