Course Description
This course teaches the skills you need to know to use Medisoft Advanced Patient Accounting, one of the
leading medical billing and scheduling software programs. Taking this course should not only build your
skills with Medisoft, but give you the know-how you need to quickly learn other medical billing software
programs as well.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion the Medical Billing Technology course, students will be able to:
•
Identify the billing cycle in a medical office.
•
Recall various types of health insurance providers.
•
Distinguish between procedure and diagnosis coding.
•
Recall basic accounting principles.
•
Recall how to process insurance claims and the importance of clean claims.
•
Enter patient demographic and clinical data.
•
Recall when to use an existing case or create a new case.
•
Enter charges and payments from patients.
•
Post deposits, payments, and adjustments from third party payers.
•
Create and print patient statements.
•
Create reports.
•
Schedule appointments.
•
Distinguish between the various claim forms (e.g., CMS-1500, HIPAA 837P).
Grading/Evaluation Policy
Evaluation is linked directly to the course objectives. Performance is measured by online lesson
exercises, assignments, and examinations. To complete this course successfully, students must
complete: 14 lessons including all reading assignments with exercises, online quizzes, assigned
exercises, assigned worksheets, and successfully pass 1 final exam.

Other
Certain inking features require running Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
or later. Speech recognition functionality requires a close-talk microphone and
audio output device. Information Rights Management features require access to
a Windows 2003 Server with SP1 or later running Windows Rights Management
Services.
Connectivity to Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 or later is required for certain
advanced functionality in Outlook 2007. Instant Search requires Microsoft
Windows Desktop Search 3.0. Dynamic Calendars require server connectivity.
Connectivity to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 with SP1 or later running
Microsoft Windows Share Point Services is required for certain advanced
collaboration functionality. Microsoft Office Share Point Server 2007 is required
for certain advanced functionality. PowerPoint Slide Library requires Office
Share Point Server 2007. To share data among multiple computers, the host
computer must be running Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows XP
Professional with SP2, or later.
Internet Explorer 6.0 or later, 32 bit browser only. Internet functionality requires
Internet access (fees may apply).

configuration and operating system.
