I have the pleasure and honor of presenting the Annual Report of Andhra Mahila
Sabha for the year 2009-10. Before going in to the report of the individual units I propose to submit general report of the “Sabha”.
As is well known the vision of our great organization is “Empowering the women” and to reach this goal AMS has the Motto to promote the education of women, to propagate traditional values, to uphold the dignity of women, to empower them, to train the women to be efficient workers and to harness their services in building up the future of the nation in general and women in particular.
Membership: The total membership of the Society of AMS is 731, as on 31-3-2010.

MEETINGS: The 3 meetings of the Executive Committee were held during the year and in addition the Local Executive Committee at Hyderabad and Chennai met 4 times &
1 time respectively during the year and deliberated on policy matters to guide and improve the functioning of Andhra Mahila Sabha.
HIGH LIGHTS:
1. Smt.
Rajalakshmi Sunkavalli , President AMS and Prof.Y Saraswathy Rao, member Executive Committee were felicitated by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh
Dr.K.Roshaih on the occasion of 113 th
birth day of Smt. Sarojini Naidu.
2. Prof. I.V.Chalapathy Rao, a veteran member of AMS and member of the
Governing Bodies of number of units of AMS, received from the Chief Minister of
Andhra Pradesh Dr.K.Roshaih, the Rajiv Gandhi Prathibha puraskar. A life time achievement award given by the Govt of Andhra Pradesh.
3. Andhra Mahila Sabha - P.Obul Reddy Public School:
(i) Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam’s visit to Andhra Mahila Sabha - P.Obul Reddy
Public School: It was indeed a land mark day in the history of Andhra Mahila Sabha and in the history of AMS P.O.Reddy Public School when the Former President of India
Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam visited the school. He spent more two hours with students, particularly with the children of primary and preprimary classes. In his address to students, he said that every one needs to keep four things in mind to be successful in life.
Aim, Acquiring of Knowledge, Hard work and Perseverance. He shared with them the
“Knowledge Equation” which was a total sum of creativity, righteousness of heart and courage.
(ii) ITC Ramki who are the initiators of the project Wealth Out of Waste (WOW) had organized an awards function on 01.07.10 at the Nizam College grounds. The Chief
Guest for the function was Dr.K.Rosaiah, Chief Minister, A.P
. gave an award to the students of AMS POR Public school for their “Outstanding support to the WOW initiative.
4. SRC ECE: Smt.K.Lakshmi, Chairperson has been nominated on ECE Policy and Action Framework committee set up Ministry of Human Resources and
Development (MHRD), Government of India.
5. AMS Arts & Science College:
(i) Smt.Sheila Ramani David received National Mahila Ratan Gold Medal Award,
Jewel of India Award and Indira Gandhi Excellence Award. Dr.M.Lalitha Kameswari received International Achievers Award for Educational achievements and Vidya Ratan
Award.
(ii) The College received best teacher award given by Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, for the fourth year in succession.
PROFILE OF ANDHRA MAHILA SABHA UNITS at CHENNAI:
1) AMS – Tourist Hostel: The license was granted to M/s.Raj Palace Sundar to run the hotel. The monthly rent from it is regularly received.
2) AMS – P.Obul Reddy Senior Citizens Home : The Home is running to full capacity and the usual events like monthly get together, Bhajans, spiritual classes, etc., are being carried on. Important festivals were celebrated. Residents attended free medical camps conducted by the sister unit.
3) AMS – I.P.D.Orthopaedic Centre: Ten children from the IPD Special
School and five adult girls from the Vocational Rehabilitation Unit received gifts from the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on the occasion of the Independence Day. The trainees of Vocational Rehabilitation Unit underwent training in Jewelry making and spoken
English for two months.12 students of Durgabai Deshmukh School-cum-Training Centre participated in the Athletic event and won two Gold medals organized by District level special Olympics in the month of November, 2009.In connection with Golden Jubilee
Fund Raising Programme Poolside Tea Party, film show and Andhra Bhojanam Pot luck were organized. 92 persons attended the Free Bone Density and BMI camp sponsored by
Meyer organics at the centre. The inaugural function of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the centre was held on 19 th
January, 2010 at the centre premises. The unit is planning to establish Life Long Hostel for Mentally Challenged Persons, Extension of out reach programme, Expansion of Sheltered work shop for orthopaedically handicapped and mentally challenged persons, Introduction of Working Womens hostel for orthopaedically handicapped girls, Teachers Training Programmes approved by
Rehabilitation Council of India in Training in Special Education (DMR).
4) AMS – Durgabai Deshmukh General Hospital & Research Centre: The hospital has conducted various free medical check up camps in Asthma, Cervical Cancer
Screening, Paediatric, Breast cancer detection, etc. Pulse polio immunization was also done.State Bank of Travancore donated a Tata Winger Ambulance to the hospital. It is decided to start B.Sc. Nursing Course instead of 3 ½ years DGNM Course.
5) Mahila Vidyalaya: The school is running well. A Dental camp was organized by Lions Club of South City in October for students, parents as well as staff. Various competitions like recitation in Tamil and English, Drawing competitions were also conducted. The school celebrated Republic Day, Sports Day, Children’s Day, School
Day, etc.
6) Mallamma Devi Mahila Mandiram: The Hostel is running smoothly with
88 inmates. The laying of iron steps to terrace has been completed at Annexe building and Main building. The over all Hostel maintenance and running is cordial and smooth.
7) P.Obul Reddy Vocational Training Institute: The regular courses like
Computers, Tailoring, Music, etc., are being conducted by the unit with a total strength of
210 students. To commemorate 100 th
Women’s Day the institution has organized an exhibition-cum-sale of various Handicrafts, Readymade garments, etc. There were 50 stalls and all the stall holders had a good sale. As there was a demand the unit is decided to conduct Zari work class for ladies. During July Power Sewing Machine Course, Data
Entry Operators and Web Designing Course was sponsored by Rotary Club of Madras
South for 50 students. Most of them got the placements.
8) AMS – Ashraya: The short stay home has been operating successfully.
During the year this centre has given shelter to 58 women and 50 children with various reasons like family problem, physical abuse and extramarital affair, property dispute, legal aid and police case. The residents participated in the exhibition organized by
Women Entrepreneur Promoters Association, Hindu Spiritual Service Fair and Women’s
Day fair at Mahila Vidyalaya.
9) AMS – Working Women’s Hostel: The hostel is running smoothly and efficiently and provides hot and tasty food. All festivals are celebrated with special meals. Women’s day was celebrated on March 7 th
in the hostel premises. The atmosphere of the hostel is calm, secure and peaceful.

Projects at Ibrahimapatnam:
The projects started during the Centenary celebrations of Dr.Durgabai Deshmukh have taken shape at Ibrahimpatnam two rural oriented programmes are started
1) Bio-Resource Centre: This is an agriculturally based project. This Center serve as information centre to provide information on different biotechnologies and their usage. The centre will have (i) Vermicompost unit (ii) Neem oil expeller and (iii) the
Information centre
For this project NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) has sanctioned a grant of Rs.7.92 lakhs. The project is underten in collaboration with Agri
Biotech Foundation connected with Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University. The project was inaugurated by the President, AMS on 16.2.2010.The production at this center is expected soon.
2) Tele- Health Center: To deal with the health related programmes of rural population a health project which is being conducted with the help of modern technology is planed in Durgabai Deshmukh Centenary Village, Vinobhanagar, Ibrahimpatnam.
This project is being managed by Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital & Research Centre,
Hyderabad. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs.20 lakhs. Andhra Mahila
Sabha Central Office is contributing Rs.15 lakhs and the balance being met from
Government grants and other contributions from the philanthropists. It is expected that the actual functioning will be started by the end of October, 2010. It is hoped that this project will immensely help the rural population.
1) AMS – Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital & Research Centre: The hospital is conducting various free medical camps in Dental, Bone Densitometry etc .7

National workshop on voice disorders and Phonosurgery (Live Demo) with hands on
Laryngostroboscopy and Thyroplasty (Cadavetic dissection course) was organized by the
DDH&RC and Sri Sathya Sai ENT Hospital.The hospital is recognized as referral hospital for State Government employees, their dependents and pensioners for treatment on reimbursement basis from October, 2009. The hospital entered into agreement for collaboration to manage the Cardiology and Cardiovascular services with M/s.Kola
Prabhakar Reddy Medical Associates. The dental wing of the hospital is running in collaboration with Dr. Goud’s hospital under a MoU. The hospital introduced Health
Screen Packages and the same were inaugurated by Smt.Rajalakshmi Sunkavally,
President, AMS on Ugadi day 16.3.2010.The hospital is planning to provide Dialysis services shortly
2) AMS – Nursing School in Mahaboobnagar: During the year 24 th
batch has completed the training and achieved cent percent result. The trainees participated in
World Health Day & World Population Day and received Memento from District
Collector.The unit is planning to establish another training programme like Vocational
Nursing two years course and Nursing Home.
3) AMS – Nursing School in Sangareddy: 24 th
batch completed the training in the month of December, 2009. As part of training programme the students attended various National Health Programmes.
4) AMS – College of Law for Women: The AMS Law College runs in the building donated by Dr. Durgabai Deshmukh. For the Academic year 2009-10, 79 students have been admitted. The results of IInd, IVth & VIth Semesters of LL.B 3 years
Course recorded 100% results. State Level Moot Court Competitions were conducted by the A.P. High Court Bar Association in the A.P.High Court Premises. 16 Colleges in the
State have participated in the Competition. The College was awarded prize for best the
Memorials and Participation certificates. The Bar Council of India has inspected the college, the grant of approval of affiliation from BCI is awaited. The Future plan of the college is starting of 5years LL.B Course.
5) AMS–Durgabai Deshmukh Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Centre:
The vocational centre offered training to 169 trainees in different vocations. The Centre
for Special Education imparted special education to 118 mentally challenged children and
82 hearing handicapped children.12 students of Hearing Impaired section have appeared for 10 th
class examinations and 9 students passed in B1 grade and 3 students passed in B2 grade.Master D.Sai Kiran of Xth class received Helen Keller Best student award.
Smt.A.L.Padmavathy, Special Teacher and Smt.N.Jayalakshmi, Typewriting instructor received Annie Sullivan best teacher award. Mr.Sudeendra student with MR participated in National Level Short put event at Anantapur and bagged Gold Medal and he is selected for International Basket Ball event to be held in Greece shortly. Mentally Retarded &
Hearing Impaired children have participated in many interschool Painting & Quiz competitions conducted by various organizations. The students of the centre also participated in cultural programmes. The centre received the renewal of recognition for 5 years from 2009-10 to 2013-14 for conducting D.Ed.S.E.(MR) and DVR (MR) courses.
The results of the said courses are cent percent.The centre is planning to conduct interschool competitions for differently abled in January, 2011.The centre is facing problem in receiving the Government grants in time.
6) AMS – Smt.G.Narayanamma Pulla Reddy Respite Home for the Adult
Mentally Challenged Girls: The present strength of the home is 30. Special Teachers,
Craft Teacher, Clinical Psychologist rendering services to train the students of the Home in various vocations. A music teacher with a service motive visits the Home once in a while and teaches the interested inmates. The home participated in the flood relief activities by supplying cooked food for one month in the affected areas.
7) AMS College of Teacher Education: Orientation programmes in
Mathematics, Social Studies and Biological Sciences were conducted by the college.
State level seminars on Challenges to Education-Secondary Level and on Strategies to develop quality in Primary Education were organized by the college.The Telugu Pandit students celebrated Matrubhasha Dinotsavam( ) on 22.2.2010.Some of the lecturers of the college delivered lectures for students of Certified Hospitality
Training offered by National Open University, New Delhi on Teaching Skill
Development for Hospitality Graduates.
8) AMS – Legal Aid Centre: The Secretary participated in Gandhi Jayanthi
Celebrations spinning the Charka. Smt.Jonna Ramani, Smt.K.N.Lakshmi, Ms.Geeta
Kumari participated and advised the villagers in a village resources programme conducted by Indian Space Research Organisation at Narayanapur Village,
Nalgonda.Ms.Vijetha Borukati, Smt.Swarna Reddy and Smt.D.S.Lakshmi participated in the National Conference of the All India Federation of Women Lawyers at Emakulam,
Kerala. Chairperson Smt.Suseela Devi and Ms.Vijetha Borukati participated in
International Lioness Club programme at Hyderabad.
Smt.A.P.Lakshmi participated in two day awareness camp at New Delhi on Women and Domestic Violence under the banner of AMS.The Administrative Committee of the centre decided to participate on request as resource persons in all Legal Awareness Camps conducted by AMS and other organizations.
9) AMS – School of Informatics: Durgabai Deshmukh Management Studies

Lecture was organized on 27.10.2009. International Women’s Day was celebrated on 8 th
March, 2010. On this occasion a debate was conducted on the topic “Women’s
Independence – Myth or Reality”.
10) AMS – College of Fine Arts & Media Education: A workshop on
Ramadasu Navaratna Keertanalu was held on 19 th
November, 2009. It was sponsored by
Sri Chakra Cements and was conducted by Malladi Brothers. About 200 students from different places of Twin Cities attended the workshop. Sita Rama Kalyanam was organized in celebration with Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Channel and it was telecast all over the globe on Sri Rama Navami.“Jajara” festival of Folk Music was held on 25 th
March, 2010, wherein Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi award was given to Smt.Snehalatha
Murali, Famous Folk Artist. On media education side the unit is planning to introduce a course in “Computer Graphics” and also starting a workshop for jute products.
11) AMS – Literacy House: Photo album of Dr.Durgabai Deshmukh was printed by Literacy House. Website on Dr.Durgabai Deshmukh was developed by Literacy
House and launched by Smt.K.Sugunamani on International Women’s Day

). Various training programmes were conducted by the centre in Computer applications, Livelihood skills, Spoken English, Drawing & Painting.
One day workshop on Puppetry was conducted and 41 teachers of various organizations were attended. Various lectures and seminars were conducted.
12) AMS – C.Ramchand Girls High School: Free Dental check up and
Medical check up were organized by Lioness club of Kartavya in collaboration with the
Lion’s Main Club and DDH&RC.The school has celebrated Independence Day,
Teacher’s Day, Children’s Day.The school is planning to introduce tailoring classes for students of 7 th
, 8 th
and 9 th
classes after school timings from August, 2010 and also train the students in Volley Ball & Khokho. The school is facing problem of mobilization of funds for unaided staff salaries.
13) AMS – SRC ECE & Lab School: The Department of Women
Development and Child Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh sanctioned Anganwadi
Training Centre for conducting ECE training to the functionaries of ICD in AP.Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) assigned SRC ECE a study on community managed ECE centers at Adilabad and Vizag districts of A.P. The unit has designed some items of the preschool kit to be supplied to all the Anganwadi centres in the State and took up the monitoring of the supply of the same by the order of the W&CWDS, of
Government of A.P. Smt.K.Lakshmi, Chairperson has been nominated on ECE Policy and Action Framework committee set up Ministry of Human Resources and
Development (MHRD), Government of India. The unit conducted trainings to various functionaries from – Private, NGO, Government organizations in the preschool and ECE components. Admissions in Lab School commenced for the year 2010-2011.
Construction of stage and training hall is in the process of completion.The unit proposes
to upgrade it as Research and Development unit in the area of Early Childhood Education in the State.
14) AMS – College of Physiotherapy: The college has celebrated Decennial
College Day by inviting Sri. Danam Nagender, Hon’ble Minister for Health & Family
Welfare as Chief Guest for the function. Cultural & Sports competitions and
Intercollegiate CME were conducted.The college is planning to improve the functioning of Hydrotherapy unit. The college is conducting free fitness camp in Therapeutic Gym and free Physiotherapy Camp at R.K.Puram, Ibrahimpatnam and Rampally.
15) AMS – Dr.A.V.Home for Senior Citizens: The inmates of the home celebrated various festivals and also Late Smt.A.L.Manoharam’s birthday.A cultural evening was celebrated on 27 th
February, 2010. Special children from DDVTRC and students of the College of Fine Arts and Media Education, Andhra Mahila Sabha entertained the audience for more than 2 hours. Some of our senior citizens also participated in the programme. The home has received various donations from the philanthropists and also from different organizations. The mess and maintenance charges have been revised with effect from 1 st
March, 2010. The increase has been by Rs.250/- per head. The carpentry work, water supply augmentation work has been completed and electrical work and installation of calling bells to each room is under progress. The home is not having nursing care and a geriatric ward. It is very painful to send away residents when they need medical and nursing help. The home is looking for a help from Andhra
Mahila Sabha Central Office to resolve this issue. The new Prospectus for the Home is approved by the Administrative Committee of the Home.
16) AMS – P.O.R Educational Academy: Results of Class X and Class XII were declared by CBSE. Mast. Rahul Nori with 96.2 topped in Class X while Ms.C.Asha with
95% (Science stream) and A.Sneha with 94.6%(Commerce stream) topped in XII
Class. Mast.Ashok Anand, Ms.A.Sneha, Mast. C.Ashwini, Ms.C.Asha got ranks in IIT examination.It is a moment of pride and privilege to mention that the school has completed 20 years of its journey forging ahead surpassing all the hurdles and reaching greater heights year after year.The school hosted the cluster VII Basket Ball Tournament on 22 nd
, 23 rd
& 24 October ‘09. Sri.M. Srikanth Reddy, renowned basket ball player declared the tournament open. Dr. Anitha Reddy CBSE Observer was present & BFI officials supervised the conduct of the tournament. 35 Boys teams and 18 Girls teams from the states of Andhra Pradesh & Karnataka participated. Around 200 students were provided food and accommodation in the school premises. The school has organized various workshops on Positive Attitude, Better Pronunciation, Teaching Methods, etc.The students have participated in various events like Science Talent Test, Quiz competitions, Drawing, Essay Writing and Debate competitions and bagged several prizes.
17) AMS Arts & Science College: The first batch under autonomy system is competed and the results were 99%.Smt.Sheila Ramani David received National Mahila
Ratan Gold Medal Award, Jewel of India Award and Indira Gandhi Excellence Award.
Dr.M.Lalitha Kameswari received International Achievers Award for Educational
achievements and Vidya Ratan Award. Vipani and Aalokan seminars were conducted by the college and also organized a work shop on Vedic Maths. The college celebrated
World Population Day, International Youth Day, Chellapilla Venkata Sastri Jayanthi,
Devulapalli Krishna Sastry Jayanthi etc.
18) Gandhi Shatabdi Bhavan: The renovation work was completed with the kind donation of various philanthropists and inaugurated the building on 2 nd
October,
2009.The educational institutions in the campus by turn organize prayer meetings on every Friday involving students of the institutions concerned. The students express their views on Gandhi quoting from works of Gandhi. Gandhians are invited to inspire the students with their experiences and knowledge of Gandhian philosophy. A foundation lecture will be conducted every year in the name of Prof.D.V.R.Vithal with the interest accrued on Rs.50,000/- which he donated for the said purpose.
