ANAHEIM, Calif. (UPI) - Los Angeles Rams coach Ray Malavasi, who led his club to the Super
Bowl in 1979 but whose teams failed to make the
NFL playoffs the past two seasons, was fired Tuesday.
"We are indebted to Ray for some fine seasons of football/* Ram owner Georgia Frontiere said. "He helped us into the playoffs three times, one two division championships and coached our first superbowl team.
"Unfortunately, the results of the past two ons have fallen short of our goal tt fans a winning team," Frontiere said. "I have strong personalfeelings of friendship for Ray. He is a fine and loyal person. However, Jjfeel for the sake of our fans it is time to make a change.''

QUEBEC (UPI) - Rookie defenseman Randy Moller scored the game-winner at 7:33 of the final period and left winger Michel
Goulet added a pair of goals Tuesday night to lift the Quebec Nordiques to a 3-1 triumph over the Montreal Canadiens.
Moller registered his second goal of the season with a the blueline which beat Montreal goaltender Richard Sevigny and stretched the Canadiens' losing string on the road to four games.
Goulet, who had opened the scoring for Quebec in the second period, sealed the victory with an emptynet goal with 28 seconds left.
The teams were tied 1-1 after two periods. Quebec goalie Dan
Bouchard faced 22 shots in the opening 40 minutes and Sevigny countered with 20 saves in the first two.
Goulet broke the deadlock in the second period with a short-handed goal at 2:41, when he corralled the puck at center ice and skated around Guy Lafleur*"before lifting the puck over a sprawled Sevigny.
But the Canadiens replied with a power-play goal at 15:03. Right winger Mario Tremblay deflected defenseman Gil Delorme's shot from the point between Bouchard's pads after Quebec had been caught with too many men on the ice during a line change.

Islanders to a 5-2 victory over Buffalo, snapping the Sabres' six-game unbeaten streak.
The triumph was the first in four games for the three-time and defending Stanley Cup champion
Islanders.
After New York's Gord Lane opened the scoring 28 seconds into the game, Buffalo's Gil Perrault scored his 21st of the year to tie it 1-1 at 3:24.
Bossy put the Islanders ahead to stay at 14:28 when he popped a pass from Bryan Trottier off the stick of
Buffalo goaltender Bob Sauve.
Brent Sutter made it 3-1 3:07 later when he took a pass from older brother, Duane, eluded Buffalo's
Craig Ramsay and skated in alone on Sauve.
Butch Goring gave New York a 4-1 advantage at 8:11 of the second period, but Mike Ramsey got the goal back for Buffalo at 10:55. New
York's Bob Bourne scored the only goal of the third period at 10:52.
Despite the victory, the Islanders

Lapland Lake Nordic Ski Center in Benson, located near Northville in the Southern Adirondacks. The race is an Empire Games qualifier and a Class II Nordic Event sanctioned by the United
States Ski Association. The timed-interval starts will begin at 10 a.m.
