M E S SAG E
Toshiba’s new management team is
determined to regain your trust.
Toshiba Corporation expresses sincere apologies to our shareholders, customers, business
partners and all other stakeholders for any concern or inconvenience caused by issues relating
to the appropriateness of its accounting.
Following the September 30 Extraordinary General Meeting of the shareholders, Toshiba
now has a new management team in place. Our immediate aims are to regain trust and
revitalize the company. We are responding resolutely to the discovery of inappropriate
accounting by enhancing internal controls. In October, we initiated wide ranging reforms of
our corporate governance, including establishing an Internal Audit Division, and an Audit
Committee composed entirely of outside directors. At the board level, we have reinforced
oversight of top management and operations by appointing a majority of outside directors.
Going forward, we will continue to implement necessary measures, while working to fulfill
our social responsibilities through business activities that place the highest priority on human
life, safety and compliance.
In an environment where the only certainty is change at an ever faster pace, we must
overcome many complex problems, including population growth, resource depletion and the
ever-growing need for energy. As we restructure Toshiba Group as a forward-looking,
globally competitive organization, we will seek to contribute to society and overcome these
issues. We will focus on three main business domains, Energy, Storage and Healthcare, and
channel our energy into creating value that our customers need today. We will also grow the
seeds that will become next generation solutions, taking advantages of our strengths in
hydrogen-based energy systems, in power electronics that can make great contributions to
energy saving and other areas.
Through its new organization, Toshiba Group as a whole will make an united effort to regain
the trust of its stakeholders, including customers and shareholders and the public. As we do
so, I ask for your understanding and ongoing support.

Industrial ICT Solutions Company
Co-create Growth of Customers’ Businesses and Future
by “Things × ICT × People”
The IoT*, the connection of diverse things to the internet, is creating new business based on
utilization of immense volumes of data.
Toshiba’s Industrial ICT Solutions Company supports business activities that combine social
infrastructure with ICT. Making full use of cutting-edge storage solutions, data centers and
cloud infrastructure, we offer industry and business total solutions covering every phase of
operation, from consultation through to operation and maintenance. We also promote next
generation ICT know-how that draws on Toshiba’ s many years of technology creativity, in
such areas as media intelligence*. On the other hand, in order to respond to the increase in
data transmission volume and to realize the real-time property of data, we promote the
development of technology of edge computing, which executes a part of data processing in
closer area to device, avoiding to do all of the processing in clouds. Our concerns also extend
to solving environmental problems such as lowering CO2 emissions and the cyber security
risks that are the by-product of IoT advances. By promoting “Things × ICT × People”, we are
creating value and a bright future with our customers and partners.
Through ‘Co-Creation’ that extends far beyond the boundaries of company, industry and
region, we are working to realize a safe, secure and comfortable society, where people all over
the world can live in comfort and safety.

Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental
Fulfilling Responsibilities as a Corporate Citizen of Planet
Toshiba Group emphasizes CSR management and environmental management, and plays a
proactive role in protecting the environment and embracing diversity.
CSR Management
Toshiba Group’s CSR
CSR management means giving top priority to human life,
safety, and legal compliance and contributing to the
solution of problems in the global society through
business. In order to meet their expectations, we need to
communicate with various stakeholders—including
customers, shareholders and investors, suppliers and
employees—as we promote CSR activities. Such activities
must be supported by each and every one of Toshiba
Group’s 200,000 employees worldwide.
In 2004 Toshiba became a signatory to the United Nations
Global Compact, which defines universal principles
covering human rights, labor standards, the environment,
and anti-corruption. We are working to fulfill our role as a
leading global enterprise in all these areas.

Inspired by the Group slogan, “Committed to People,
Committed to the Future, TOSHIBA,” we are conducting
social contribution activities rooted in communities around
the world. The Toshiba “ASHITA” Award, launched in
2005 to commend Toshiba Group employees for
outstanding social contributions, received 1,540 applications
in fiscal 2014 and awards were made to seven, including a
collaborative activity geared toward self-sustaining
communities in rural areas (Toshiba India Private Limited).
In 2014, we also carried out “Toshiba Group Simultaneous

International Volunteer Day by the United Nations. Our aim
was to achieve a major contribution to society through the
cooperation of as many as possible of Toshiba Group’ s

Continuing to Support Reconstruction after the Great East Japan Earthquake
We continue to support the reconstruction of the Tohoku
region from the perspectives of human development,
manufacturing (industrial development), and community
development, toward helping the region and the people hit by
the disaster to recover as soon as possible. Toshiba has been
providing university scholarships to selected students in the
Tohoku region since fiscal 2011. With employee-organized
fundraising and labor union activities taking the lead, we
continue to dispatch volunteers to the quake-hit region. In
addition, specialty goods from the affected areas are on sale
at shops in Toshiba HQ and our factories, and local foods are
used in canteen meals. Since FY2012, as part of their initial
training, new employees of Toshiba and other Group
companies assist reconstruction.

Environmental Vision 2050
In “Environmental Vision 2050,” Toshiba Group envisages a
mid-century world where people lead affluent lifestyles in
harmony with the Earth. Throughout product life cycles,
from manufacture to use, to reuse and recycling, Toshiba
Group emphasizes safety, security and value creation. The
Group also strives for harmony with the Earth by working to
mitigate climate change, use resources efficiently and manage
chemicals properly, in order to reduce environmental
impacts.
In order to realize Environmental Vision 2050, Toshiba
Group has set a long-term goal to increase eco-efficiency by
10 times compared to the FY2000 level by FY2050.
Eco-efficiency can be expressed as a fraction, with value as the
numerator and environmental impacts as the denominator. It
can be improved largely by increasing added value and
decreasing environmental impacts simultaneously. To further
accelerate its initiatives for environmental management based
on the four “Green” concepts—“Greening of Process,”
“Greening of Products,” “Greening by Technology,” and
“Green Management”—as we aim to become one of the
world’s foremost eco-companies.

History and Chronology
The tireless curiosity and passion for invention of Toshiba’s
two founders are the source of Toshiba’s corporate DNA.
We continue to draw inspiration from their examples.
Hisashige Tanaka (1799-1881)
Ichisuke Fujioka (1857-1918)
Known as the “genius of mechanical wonders,” Hisashige
Tanaka was one of Japan’s greatest inventors during the
late Edo (1603-1868) and early Meiji (1868-1912)
periods. His long list of inventions includes the “Man-nen
dokei” chronometer. In addition to his brilliant
craftsmanship, he was well versed in Western technologies,
including telegraphy and steam engines. In 1875, at the age
of 76, he opened a shop-cum-factory in Ginza, Tokyo, that
manufactured various devices, most notably telegraph
equipment. This is recognized as the origin of Toshiba.
The “father of electricity in Japan,”
Ichisuke Fujioka’ s pioneered Japanese
research into electric lighting. He met
Thomas Edison when visiting the United
States on a Japanese government mission
and on his return devoted himself to the
development of Japan’ s first incandescent
lamps. Fujioka founded a company,
Hakunetsu-sha, in 1890, to manufacture
light bulbs.

Integrity: The Greatest Good
Ichisuke Fujioka, one of Toshiba’s founders, penned this calligraphy
while still a boy of 10. Pronounced as shizen in Japanese, the characters translate
as “the greatest good,” a concept that remained the lifelong credo
of Fujioka, a man of integrity who always wanted to be of service to people.
The same impulse to work for the benefit of society is
an integral part of the DNA of Toshiba Group.
Committed to People, Committed to the Future. Toshiba
We remain committed to pursuing business with integrity
so that together we can build a better world.
