UMW HONORS PROGRAM ASSESSMENT – Fall 2014 Admits One of the yearly requirements of the UMW Honors Program students is to complete a portfolio of honors program work and activities. Rather than using the ePortfolio in Canvas, we will be using Orgsync to record your involvement in the Honors Program. By October 10, 2014 you need to complete the following activities: 1) Log into orgsync and accept the invitation to the honors program group. (See below for more information about logging into orgsync) 2) Write a 2‐3 paragraph essay about the honors program (initial reflective essay) using the form on orgsync. Failure to complete these requirements by October 10, 2014 will result in loss of the priority registration for spring 2015 classes. UMW HONORS PROGRAM INITIAL REFLECTIVE ESSAY Review the lists of learning objectives for the Honors Program. Identify three of the learning objectives and include in a two to three paragraph reflective essay, your confidence, familiarity, abilities in these areas. How do you think the Honors Program will help you achieve these learning outcomes? This reflective essay will be part of your required Honors Program Portfolio. Student Learning Outcomes for the University Honors Program At graduation from the honors program, students will demonstrate competence in: • Self –directed learning o Students will make choices to be active agents in their own ongoing education • Written and oral communication skills o Students will employ an understanding of audience, purpose and context to communicate effectively to various audiences • Ethical maturity and good citizenship o Students will articulate the potential ethical ramifications for given situations and reflect on how ethics apply to themselves as local, national, and global citizens • Context‐driven research skills o Students will demonstrate the ability to perform applied research in various contexts and use research conventions and technologies suitable to their research question and purpose • Inter‐disciplinary synthesis o Students will apply the benefits of a liberal arts education by demonstrating that they are able to view topics through the lens of more than one discipline • Active participation in the UMW community o Students will actively participate in the extra‐curricular life of UMW, demonstrating service and creating community within both UMW and the larger Fredericksburg area • Active Meta‐analysis of self and others o Students will actively engage in self‐reflection, using meta‐analysis as a tool for personal growth and general problem solving and reflection. How to import your Initial Program Essay for the Honors Program in OrgSync 1. Log into www.orgsync.com using your UMW username and password If you have not logged into OrgSync before, please take a few minutes to create a user profile. 2. Go to “My Memberships” at the top of the page and select on “Honors Program” 3. On the home page for the Honors Program, you will see a list of forms. Select the form for Honors First‐Year Reflection Essay – Fall 2014. 4. Alternatively, select the forms link and scroll down the list to find form titled Honors First‐Year Reflection Essay_Fall 2014 or go to the following url https://orgsync.com/73464/forms/113971. 5. Begin the form and follow the prompts to upload your essay.
