In addition to reviewing your current proposal to establish a Department of Physical Science, the DOC members reviewed feedback received via email. Recommendation to College President The DOC recommends that the college president establish a Physical Science Incubator Unit comprised of the disciplines listed below, for one year. The proposed one-year “incubator” period aligns with the next cycle of Science department chair election. If the DOC’s recommendation is accepted by the College President, the disciplines listed below would not be part of the Science department for the 2013-14 year: *Disciplines Recommended to Transition to Physical Science Incubator Unit for 2013-14 Astronomy, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology and Physics Further, the DOC proposes to meet in May of 2014 to review your progress on the following measures: • • • • developing new and updating curriculum including transferability, articulation, and TMC alignment, as applicable increased formalized partnerships with four-year colleges and universities engagement with industry, physical science associations and other organizations leading towards increased internships/externships and student and faculty research opportunities; and increased faculty engagement in college activities and committees The DOC further recommends that the college president (or designee) convene a meeting with you, your assigned supervising administrator and the DOC members prior to the end of the Spring 2013 semester to ensure that you understand the spirit, intent, logistics and outcomes expected from the Physical Science Incubator Unit for 2013-14.
