Introduction
The Royal Statistical Society’s annual international conference this year takes
place at the City Hall in Sheffield, Yorkshire, and we hope that it is already
in your diary. There is something for everyone in the exciting and diverse
programme built round the conference streams which include Communication
of statistical ideas, Data Science, Medicine & epidemiology, Policy evaluation,
and Statistical methods and theory.
There is a 20% discount available on registration until 30 May and 10% until
21 July, so sign up early to take full advantage of these offers.
We are delighted to welcome Lord Allan of Hallam (Facebook), Peter Hall
(Melbourne), Tim Harford (Financial Times & BBC) and Terry Speed (Melbourne)
as our plenary speakers for the event.
We look forward to seeing you in Sheffield in September.

In addition there will be 29 invited sessions on a broad range of topics of
interest to statisticians and users of statistics with speakers from at least 12
countries.
There is a full professional development programme with pre-conference short
courses on Monday 1 September and workshops running throughout the main
conference.
The RSS Conference prides itself on being welcoming to new attendees and
there will be plenty of opportunity to meet old and brand new friends over tea
or coffee, at lunch or at one of the evening social events.
