I feel that Rose is the strongest character in this play. She finally gets out of this shell that she herself put herself in with the help of Troy. As she says in the scene she planted a seed in Troy. A seed filled with her dreams, her hopes, her ambitions and it never grew. Yet she stayed with him. She lived a life knowing that she was never going to aspire to be what she wanted. She had to wait for Troy to get his life together. It he never got it together.
In this scene Rose it begins as a problem because Troy slept with another women but it then translates into a problem with her security and now her personal life. She feels the need to finally let Troy know how she felt, what she knew, and how it affected her. She let's go of all the demons she had inside. She lifts the weight off her shoulder and drops it on Troy.
This is all knew information to Troy and he doesn't know what to do. This is like dropping a bomb which Rose had to do it was time he knew what was really going on in life. Rose the struggles to fight for her love she explains why she stays with him. She says "I was your wife, I owed it to you to give you all of me." I which she states why she stayed with Troy knowing that they were not going anywhere in life.
In a way I think Rose still had some hopes for Troy. She hoped that
Troy would get out of this rut that happened in his life. Always dreaming that he could make something of himself and he never understands that if he kept doing what he did not changing certain aspects of his life nothing else would change. If Troy went somewhere or did aspire to do something in life Rose's hopes and dreams would be revived. In my mind this is why
Rose gives so much to Troy. She hopes things will change.
In this scene though Rose finally gives up all hope. Troy did the unthinkable in Rose's mind. This is when rose finally shows her true feelings and is finally at peace. She has been honest with Troy which might be a scary thing making her a stronger person. In my mind Rose is a strong woman and the strongest character. She has taken so much pain and now she has released her pain.
