I was first introduced to APICS by a company that hired me straight from college. I did not fully understand what the organization was or why I needed more classes, but my company offered an onsite Detailed Scheduling and Planning course so I decided to attend. After completion of the class I decided to take the test and passed but gained much more than another certificate. It helped me to understand my goals as a material planner a little bit better and how my role fit in with the overall company’s success (or failure). Fast forward to 2013, from there I took classes and self-studied to pass all the other modules of CPIM with one remaining, Strategic Management of Resources. With classes expiring after 10 years, I needed to pass SMOR before I would be forced to retake the test. Well, I failed...twice. Not only that but now I had to retake two of the exams I previously passed because they had expired. At the beginning of 2015 I made it a goal to complete my CPIM certification. I started by retaking the two exams that had expired. At this point on the job experience along with selfstudy tools helped me pass the exams. Once again SMOR stood between me and my goals. This time around I was going to seek help and enrolled in the SMOR course offered by the chapter. Not only did the course help me prepare for the exam, but Jim, Mak, and Bob explained the material in a way that helped me understand as opposed to knowing just to pass a test. Needless to say a week after the course was over I took my final test and passed. It feels good not only to know I achieved a career goal of mine but also to have the knowledge to continue advancing my career and the tools needed to be successful on the job. 13901 Midway Rd, Ste 102-281, Dallas, TX 75244 ∙ 972-742-6971 ∙ info@ntxapics.org Page 2 October 2015 Newsletter Scottish Rite Tree Lighting Ceremony and Decorating Sandra Eutsler Tuesday, December 1st, 2015 Arrive – 5:00 PM Program – 5:30 PM Decorate – 6:00 PM Dinner is offered during and after decorating. On Tuesday, December 1st, North Texas APICS will participate in decorating Christmas trees at the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas. Come lend a hand as we create the Christmas season for the children and their families! Together we can help make the holidays extraordinary for the kids at the hospital. Some of the children at the Scottish Rite are in the hospital for long periods of time, and the experience we can give them is inspiring and magical. We feel grateful to have participated in this event for over 15 years and counting. Our group sponsors and trims one tree in the motion lab. Volunteers from our group congregate in the main foyer of the hospital for the opening ceremony and tree lighting event; afterwards we begin decorating. Decorating takes about 30 minutes. There will be an old fashioned band playing Christmas music, and popcorn and soft drinks will be offered during the ceremony. After decorating is done, some of us take the opportunity stroll through the hospital to see the trees decorated by other groups (optional). A meal is proudly served by volunteers after the tree decorating. So come join in on the fun, and make the holidays exceptional for some very special kids and their families. 13901 Midway Rd, Ste 102-281, Dallas, TX 75244 ∙ 972-742-6971 ∙ info@ntxapics.org Page 3 October 2015 Newsletter Want to be a Company Coordinator?
