Director’s
Corner
Welcome back to all our returning groups that
have taken a break during the summer. We are
glad to have you back with us.
I wanted to share something fun with you this month.
September 5-11 is National Waffle Week. So here is some
Waffle House® Trivia
Over 55 years ago, neighbors Joe Rogers and Tom
Forkner wanted to create a restaurant focused on people
(both staff and customers) and provide the friendliest
service in town. On Labor Day 1955, they opened the first
Waffle House® in Avondale Estates, an Atlanta suburb, and
the business has expanded to more than 1600 restaurants
in 25 states. Each location is open 24 hours a day, 365
days a year, and Waffle House® did not take credit cards
until 2006. They don't just serve waffles either.
Did you know…..per minute the Waffle House® serves
 368 strips of bacon  159 waffles
 136 cups of coffee  117 grits orders
 115 sausage patties  204 hash brown orders
 38 hamburgers
 7 strip steaks
 10 pork shops
 18 chicken breasts and Texas cheese steaks
 5 T-bone and chopped steaks
 If all the sausage patties served in one day were stacked
up, the pile would be as tall as the Empire State
Building.
 If all the Smithfield® bacon strips served by the Waffle
House® in one year were laid end -to-end, they would
stretch from Atlanta to Los Angeles seven times,
totaling 21,000 miles of bacon.
Have a wonderful month, bring a friend to all the events,
and "See You at The Centre."

"Ditch the workout,
join the party"
According to Bodyshaping
by Sandy founder, Sandy
Mannella, her classes are
great for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. She prides
herself on the ability to modify any class for the people in
attendance. She and instructor Cindy Hyers will be teaching ZUMBA, and Total Body BOOT CAMP at The Dale
Association this fall (see "Be Well" section, pg.3). Sandy
herself has a back problem but doesn't let that stop her
from having fun and staying fit. She teaches her classes
for a variety of abilities. Sandy has students well into
their 70's enjoying themselves, her own mother, 79 years
young, for instance!
"Anyone who likes music and moving will find the classes fun and easy to do. Our classes have the feel of being
on vacation, of being at a party. Lots of our music has a
Latin flavor, you can't help but want to move around!
People have fun and feel energized from the classes", says
Sandy. "Once you try one of our classes, you'll be with us
forever! You'll have a regular 'date' with us. You'll find
camaraderie, inspiration, and motivation from our outgoing teachers and your peers." Students tell Sandy: "You
make me feel so good!"
Sandy, the Director of Bodyshaping by Sandy has been
making workouts fun since 1989. She has over 25 years as
a professional in the fitness industry. Her classes are
unique - she and her 50 fitness instructors, specialists and
trainers come to their clients. Her satellite approach to fitness works for The Dale Association, where we host her
classes for people of all ages and abilities in Niagara
County. Plus, clients of BlueCross BlueShield,
Independent Health and Univera may also get their classes paid for!
So, get off the couch, put on your sneakers and join us for
the party! No leotards required here, just a willingness to
try something new and have a good time.

Lockport Old Home Week Winner
United Way’s Make a

Letter to the Members of the Dale Association
From Michelle Farina of
BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York
With autumn approaching, it’s a good
time to take care of both your health
and your health care plan. As your
Government Programs benefits consultant, it’s always a pleasure to bring
you news and information that may
be helpful to you.
Health Care Reform
and Medicare/Medicare
Advantage Changes
The passage of the Patient Protection
and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) –
which we more commonly refer to as
the health care reform law – in March
has left many people with questions
about how the law will impact them.
If you weren’t able to join BlueCross
BlueShield for the education sessions
we held this summer, here’s a brief
summary of some changes that
Medicare and Medicare Advantage
members can expect for the remainder of this year and in early 2011:
1. If you are currently enrolled in a
Medicare Part D plan and you enter
the prescription drug coverage gap
(also called the “donut hole”) this
year, you will receive a rebate of $250
from the federal government (please
note that these checks do not come
from BlueCross BlueShield or any
other insurer). If you are not in a Part
D plan, or are in one but do not hit the
coverage gap this year, you will not
be eligible for a rebate.
18
www.daleassociation.com
2. If you are currently enrolled in a
Medicare Advantage plan, you will
receive updated benefit and premium
information in October. If you are satisfied and wish to stay in the plan you
currently have, you will not need to
do anything – you will be automatically enrolled for 2011.
3. Informational sessions regarding
Medicare Advantage plans for 2011
will begin on or around October 1,
with enrollment in plans taking place
from November 15-December 31 of
this year.
4. A very important change to note is
that as of January 1, 2011, if you do
not want to stay in the Medicare
Advantage plan that you had chosen,
you will only be able to go back to
original Medicare, not to select another plan. This is a significant change
from past years, so I encourage you to
get all the information you need when
you enroll.
Please remember that I am here to
help you, too.
Seasonal flu vaccinations
I’d also like to remind you to ask your
doctor about getting the seasonal flu
vaccine. As the formulation changes
each year, the most current vaccination will give you the most protection.
Seasonal flu shots may be available
as early as August this year, so ask
your doctor about getting yours soon.
To learn more about the plans and
services available through BlueCross
BlueShield, stop by and see me – I’m
here every other Tuesday – or give me
a call at 1-716-481-4114 or via email
at farina.michelle@bcbswny.com.
You can also visit our web site
www.bcbswny.com. I’ll also be holding meetings here at the Dale Center
every week from October through
December. Read your newsletters and
watch your mail for invitations to find
out the exact dates and times.
I look forward to seeing you soon.

Montondo’s Seafood
Why Fish/Seafood?
By now everyone should be aware of the nutritional
recommendations to include fish/seafood in our
diets. Low in bad fat, high in protein and other
essential nutrients, fish/seafood provides a heart
healthy alternative to meat-so why aren’t we eating it
more often? Although responses vary, one of the
most popular reasons expressed can be summed up
as intimidation-as in how to select it and then how to
prepare it. This is where Montondo’s Seafoodyour neighborhood source for quality fish and
