rt exhibition titled Fragrance of Life, the
first solo paintings exhibition by Namrata
Singh, started from January 17 at Park
Gallery, Pulchowk.
“All the paintings in this exhibition are a
reflection of my childhood, of Mahottari
where I grew up; they are impressions of the
Mithila arts and culture. I have also used many
Mithila symbols of hope and luck in my
paintings; they are a projection of positivity in
a world full of negative energy,” says Singh.
Singh plays with the memories and
impressions she had had growing up in
the eastern Tarai district Mahottari, a popular
destination of Mithila arts.
One can also see, in each of 22 paintings
on display, the sublime aspects of women
and the colour-rich palette of Mithila arts. The
exhibition will continue till March 21.

Mos Def ordered to
leave South Africa
in passport row
CAPE TOWN: The American rapper
best known as Mos Def has been
ordered to leave South Africa within
14 days after being arrested for
breaking immigration laws. Mos
Def, now known as Yasiin Bey, was
held at Cape Town International
Airport on Thursday after trying to
leave the country with unrecognised
papers. The Department of Home
Affairs said the 42-year-old produced
what he called a “world passport”. It
said the singer had overstayed his
tourist visa, obtained in 2013. Born
Dante Smith in New York, Mr Bey is
now banned from South Africa for
five years, but has been allowed to
appeal. He had been living in Cape
Town since May 2013, South African
media said. “Further investigation
into the matter revealed that Mr
Smith’s wife, mother and four children had overstayed and were
sojourning in the country illegally,”
a statement by the Department of
Home Affairs said. As well as being
nominated for six Grammy Awards,
he has appeared in a number of
films, including The Hitchhiker’s
Guide to the Galaxy, Be Kind Rewind

Amal Clooney ready to
spread humanity
LOS ANGELES: British human rights lawyer
Amal Clooney, who is married to actor
George Clooney, feels a “certain responsibility” being in the public eye, but wants to
use her newfound fame for “good”. “I think
it’s wonderful that celebrities would choose
to spend their time or energy or, you know,
the spotlight that they have to raise awareness about these causes,” Amal said, “I
don’t really see myself in the same way
because I’m still doing the same job that I
used to do before. If there’s more attention
paid—for whatever reason—to that, then I
think that’s good. I think there is a certain
responsibility that comes with that. And
you know, I think I’m exercising it in an
appropriate manner by continuing to do
this kind of work.” George had said he
thinks Amal is smart, he often feels like an
“idiot” when they sit down for a chat. (IANS)

Dion’s
brother dies
just day after
her husband
aniel Dion, the older
brother of pop singer
Celine
Dion,
died
Saturday, just two days
after the death of the
entertainer’s husband, Rene
Angelil.
Celine Dion’s representative Kim Jakwerth released
a statement that Daniel
Dion, 59, died Saturday surrounded by his family after
battling cancer for several
years. The statement said
he died at a palliative care
center in Terrebonne,
Quebec, outside Montreal.
The family is “remembering a gentle and reserved
man of many talents”, the
statement said.
The announcement follows the death on Thursday
of the 73-year-old Angelil in
suburban Las Vegas after a
long ballet with throat cancer. Angelil was Celine
Dion’s manager for decades,
molding her from a Frenchspeaking Canadian ingénue
into one of the world’s most
successful singers, best
known for the smash hit My
Heart Will Go On the theme
from Titanic.
Daniel Dion, the father of
two daughters, was the
eighth of 14 Dion children.
The Dion siblings, including Celine, performed at
their parents’ small piano
bar called Le Vieux Baril
(The Old Barrel) in the town
of Charlemagne, Quebec.
Viewing will take place
next Saturday, a day after
Angelil’s funeral is set to
take place at Montreal’s
Notre Dame Basilica, the
same church where he married the singer in 1994.
Daniel Dion’s religious
funeral will be held several
days later at a church in the

Bollywood awaits
Munna Bhai’s return
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
MUMBAI, JAN 17
W
ith just over a month left for
Sanjay Dutt’s release from jail,
Bollywood is readying a few
film scripts and the actor is
expected to make a comeback
to the silver screen with the third
movie from the immensely popular
Munna Bhai series post-incarceration. From his drug and alcohol
addiction days to his involvement in
the 1993 bomb blasts case, which saw
him landing in jail for illegal possession of an AK-56 rifle, Dutt has had a
turbulent life.
Controversy’s favourite child,
Dutt’s life has been closely followed
in the film industry and by his fans.
Barring some last-minute hitches, he
will come out of Pune’s Yerwada prison as a free man on February 25, earlier than expected thanks to his “good
conduct” in jail that earned him
remission in sentence.
“He will be out (of jail) next month.
But as far as his professional life is
concerned I am not aware about it.
The films he will do or not do. His
wife Manyata takes care of it,” Dutt’s
sister Priya said.
Manyata did not respond to phone
calls and messages.
“Once Sanjay sir returns then
work will begin and other things will
be decided. As of now Hasmukh
Pighal Gaya
is ready. We are
waiting for him to come back,”
sources said.
A trade analyst said, “I don’t think
he has signed a film yet. Once he
comes back he will start working
depending on what is offered to him
and what he wants to do. I think he
would be offered mostly character
roles.”
Dutt’s last release, in end-2014, was
Hirani’s PK where he played a
supporting role. They have started
work on the third part of Munna
Bhai series, which has been in the
past directed by Hirani.
Fans were overjoyed when they
first saw the teaser of Munna Bhai
Chale America but it was short-lived.
“It was a good teaser but we
couldn’t crack it. That film is not
done… We are working on another
story for Munna Bhai,” Hirani said.
